David Brown.
He's been given permission to leave Gloucestershire a year early and is quite a talented young all rounder.
He's never really cemented a place in their side yet is a hard hitting batsman and a good swing bowler. I think he's a player with talent, probably better than a batting average of 28 and bowling average of just over 40 suggests.
He hits a ball very hard, as evidenced by a 26 ball innings of 63 not out he made against Surrey in a one day game, with seven fours and five sixes.
At 26 his best days are ahead of him and I think he'll be snapped up by someone fairly quickly. Indeed, he said that he hoped to be playing against Gloucestershire in the very near future.
I think he will do a decent job for someone, though wouldn't necessarily be near the top of my list for Derbyshire at this stage.
Meanwhile Scott Newman returns to Surrey for the last year of his deal after failing to impress at Nottinghamshire. Mind you, most people fail to impress me at Nottinghamshire... droll, huh?
We don't want Scott Newman thanks. Rogers and Madsen are fine for openers and we have young Borrington as cover.
ReplyDeleteAs for Brown I am not sure but we already have a lot of players who can bat and bowl such as Clare, Groenewald, Park, Wagg, Redfern, Smith, Needham, Whiteley and Hughes. What we need is a specialist fast bowler and a specialist spinner.
