Warwickshire v. Derbyshire preview

Derbyshire make the second trip to Edgbaston of the Vitality Blast tomorrow, with a game against Birmingham, who they beat conclusively last week.

It is the same squad as usual and the only decision is whether Harry Came comes into the side to replace Luis Reece. Both played for the second team today at Belper, Came top scoring with a fifty while Reece was dismissed first ball.

The potential omission of Luis would leave us a bowling option short, but it seems that Tom Wood is seen as the 6th bowler, from recent matches.

Tomorrow's game is winable, but we will need to dismiss Sam Hain early again. He has been in sparkling form this year and his only real failure was against us in the corresponding fixture at Derby

We need to get back on the winning trail again and tomorrow is a good place and time to start. Give them the broad spectrum of performance that we have so far produced, it is hard to feel overly confident, but there is no denying that the talent to win games is there.

If everyone does what they are supposed to do...

More from me tomorrow night. Apologies, today got away from me a little.

  1. I think the challenge is consistency as a collective. There seems to be very little this season. It all depends which team turns up. The captain has been the most disappointing. We really needed his firepower in last 10 overs but just been a raft poor shot selection and poor strike rate this season. If he wasn’t captain he wouldn’t be selected. The squad lacks any depth and players who are playing out of form still getting selected show this. I felt like many supporters the expectation of building on last season. The reality looks like a huge reconstruction of the team ahead. I hope Harry gets a start tonight as he deserves a chance like Tom. If you look at Harry numbers this season he done little wrong. It be very tough game tonight. I hope we see Derbyshire bowl first as be interested to see how we play. As every team will put us into bat with the performance of setting targets this season.

  2. Whatever the line up (and I'd replace Reece or McKiernan with Came), we need to show more aggression and urgency with the bat. As you pointed out, Steve, the problem in terms of runs seems to be in the first few overs and the last few.

  3. So pleased for the team tonight and especially Leus. Thought we’d let em get 20 too many but the skipper finally came to the party and what a hand he played. A strike rate of 264 under that level of pressure was simply remarkable. What an unbelievable talent he is. Lewis also found some nice form which hopefully will give us great confidence moving forwards in this competition. Matty M also bowled really well . I would have sent him in in front of Brooke with the bat
But he too hit a great 6 when it was needed. All in all a very satisfactory evening and only 2 points off the playoffs! It’s took a while but all the players are showing that this is our best 11 in this format. 3 wins in 4 is a good return. We can beat anyone in this format on our day. Cant wait till Friday now. Well done boys. Made my day.
