I did catch a bit of the Nottinghamshire game tonight and they were too good for Durham. It will be a big ask for Derbyshire to beat them, even with home advantage tomorrow. It will need 11 players turning up and performing at their best, we cannot do it with any less.
I don't see any changes to the Derbyshire side, but Jake Ball, who bowled well tonight will likely not be risked for games on consecutive evenings for the visitors.
They have a very strong top four, but I would love to see us win the toss and chase, as we did at Edgbaston. I think it suits our game better.
Fingers crossed we acquit ourselves well. If eight wins are normally needed to qualify, we need to win five of our last seven. There are winnable games in there, but we simply cannot afford to lose both games this weekend and next.
Two wins would put us right back in it, but I am not sure we have the depth in our side to beat Nottinghamshire.
But there is a chance for someone to become a hero...
Surely only one game this weekend ?
ReplyDeleteFor speed I dictated this piece, Simon. And it didn't pick up 'and next'. Duly amended! Thanks
DeleteAs always with Derbyshire, it's impossible to predict which team will turn up. Three of our top four fired against Warwickshire. Ali has got into his stride, Reece has recovered his form, and du Plooy showed how explosive he can be. We will need a similar performance.
ReplyDeleteI also think a run chase will suit us better.
I can’t say I’m feeling overly confident about tonight. Not only do we rarely seem to beat Nottinghamshire, but we rarely seem to win in televised games either so it’s a bit of a double whammy! But after Wednesday evening, confidence in the team should be high so let’s see. I’m more than happy to be proven wrong again!

I think we have very little chance of being Notts, but I thought we had zero chance of beating Warwickshire, and we did it twice. Fingers crossed 🤞
ReplyDeleteWarwickshire have been poor in both games against Derbyshire Hain apart their batting hasn't performed both Ali and Maxwell have offered little over the two games overall Derbyshire have shown to be a better all round team
ReplyDeleteWe have players who can turn in match winning performances, such as du Plooy against Warwickshire. His 66 in 25 balls was at a strike rate of 250! The problem we often have is that we don't get several players in the same game putting in match winning performances. For much of the batting in this T20 campaign it has been the Wayne Madsen Show. Let's hope tonight that enough players step up to the plate to get us a win.
ReplyDeleteSlow start costs Derbyshire once again
