Derbyshire v. Yorkshire preview

With the games coming thick and fast, as well as my commitments north and south of the border being considerable, I have run out of time on this one.

I don't see a change in the Derbyshire side from Friday night, other than a replacement for Mark Watt being needed, but I hope we manage our batting a little better than we did in that game. A winning position was built early, but we allowed the opposition bowlers, who did well, to dictate the middle period. A point gained thanks to Haider Ali's last ball four, but one lost, for me.

I find it hard to believe that Derbyshire will have any real interest in the remainder of the competition, should they lose this one today. Yorkshire are in outstanding form and they have a very powerful top order.

Their squad:

Lyth, Malan, Masood, Wiese, Tattersall, Thompson, Hill, Leech, Luxton, Mike, Bess, Wharton, Chohan, Revis

Prediction? Only on the basis that I have no idea which Derbyshire side will show up, I suspect Yorkshire will be too strong today. I hope I'm wrong and if the Derbyshire of last year, as well as the two games against Birmingham this year turns up, we can win it.

But will they? In front of a capacity crowd, some will thrive and others will struggle.

We can only hope that Derbyshire produced their best game and make it an enjoyable watch!

What do you think?

  1. Loose today and virtually all Derbyshire have left to play for is the 50 over competition is it too much to ask because our usual band of mercenaries won't be available for Mickey Arthur to find suitable replacements if not what's happened to this so called "spirit of cricket?"it's an insult to members that several of our best players prefer to line their pockets rather than play for Derbyshire in one of the only three competitions open to the first team

    1. You might want to reconsider your opinion that Wayne Madsen is a mercenary! As a club, we are so lucky that he has committed his career to Derbyshire and you can be absolutely certain he could have earned a lot more cash at another county if that was his motive. Craig

    2. That's a strange comment. I'm not aware of any county non international player refusing to play in the H@#&_£d. I suspect that cash cow won't be around much longer and I don't blame any player for milking it.

    3. I disagree. Short career and they are entitled to make money where and when they can.

    4. Very harsh. Blame the ECB scheduling wizards not players who have to look after their families first.

    5. Wayne Madsen a mercenary?? What planet are you on KJB ? Ridiculous comment. Paul

    6. That's disrespectful KJB. Blame the ECB schedules not loyal players earning the best money they can from a shortlived, failing experiment. Madsen is one of those and there is no more loyal player to Derbyshire over the last 20 years.

  2. One enforced change is the absence of Watt on Scotland duty. His performances reflect the team’s- very up and down. Certainly not lived up to his reputation. Paul

  3. The weather forecasts don't look great for Chesterfield today, but if we do manage to complete the game, I think we can win, despite Yorkshire's good run in the competition. We came so close against Durham.

  4. I'd have to harken back to the 70's to have enjoyed such a day at Queens Park.
    Joy unsurpassed !
Seeking perfection I still wonder why with Yorkshire 7 down Zaman was not immediately recalled by the skipper -- saved for the death overs perhaps ?
We got there anyway -- my thanks to all the team for a memorable day !
