  1. Think the reality is this group of players have done incredible. They gone from finishing bottom and not really competing to quarter finals and still in for a chance promotion. What we seeing now small squad and fatigue to keep the high standard we have set . Mickey said we short by 3-4 players and think that reflection where we at the moment as a team going into last stage of the season. I have so much admiration for this group players on how they have turned round the cricket club. I do see the next few weeks will be hard slog. Well done guys keep the good work up. Stay in the game and you never know what will happen. Think tomorrow be a really tough day ahead. Think we need 260+ big ask.

  2. Not going well and we'll be lucky to avoid defeat here. Billy has to be dropped now, had too many chances already this season and is just not delivering, Harry Came should be given a go, he can't do any worse. Looks like we'll be skittled out tomorrow cheaply, and Durham will wrap the victory up at the end of day 3 or early day 4. Poor so far Derbyshire!

    1. Would just counter this ‘it looks like we’ll be skittled out tomorrow cheaply.’ We’ve lost a very out of form batsmen and a night watchman. I don’t think that warrants such doom and gloom. Keep your confidence!

  3. Attended the first 2 days . This game in the balance . I think the first session tomorrow will define the game . Billy is totally out of sorts ( average 15 @ SR 31) I think it’s time for some intervention by Micky .

  4. No apologies necessary Steve. Cricket is a wonderful gift, but it's by no means the most important thing.
Good effort today, but my oh my, do we have a problem with Billy.
Anything over 250 and I reckon we've a good chance, but Rushworth does seem to have zeroed in on us, but best batsmen still to come.
Be a cracking day 3 methinks.

Disappointing to turn a potentially very strong position into one of danger.

  6. As seems to happen so often in CC games, the opposition mirrored our score. I've no idea why this happens, but it does. We plugged away, but let Durham off the hook, just as they let us off the hook.

My main point is BIlly's form this season. I went to the shops at the end of the road when Durham were something or other for nine, and it looked as if Derbyshire would bat for a few overs. And I knew Billy would be out by the time I got back. And he was, with exactly the identical dismissal as the first innings.

MA has done an incredible job, but I'm baffled as to why he keeps sending Billy out to open. He's had 14 innings and is averaging just over 15. You can't build a successful side if one of your openers in such bad form. He's never once looked like scoring this season. Presumably Billy is being given help by Andy Bell and other coaches, but it isn't working. It seems almost cruel to send him out as opener.

  7. Lots of talking points from this match so far. After Du Plooy and Dal played calmly and sensibly to restore our fortunes and added 276, our tail collapsed, the last five wickets crumbling for 32 runs. Compare that with Durham. We had them on the ropes at 142-7 then their last three wickets added 154.
Looking at our bowling, loanee Pettman was by far our most successful and economical bowler. Then Billy failed yet again and for some reason Conners was sent in and was predictably dismissed. So now from a position of strength we are up against it. We threw away a winning position against Sussex in our last CC fixture. It looks like we might do it again today. I agree with previous correspondents. The skipper must be dropped. His very poor run of form means we are playing catch up at the start of our innings too regularly.

  8. And then in came Du Plooy and Guest….

  9. Quite right Denise. A brilliant stand of 248 has changed the game for us. After a dismal 2021, Du Plooy has suppressed his attacking instincts to play two mature innings to put us in what should he a commanding position. And Guest has blossomed into a batter of great patience and ability. MA has obviously encouraged both to show what they can do with fantastic results.

  10. Great effort from Du Plooy and Guest. It clearly is a wicket where the new ball does a lot and then it goes soft and flattens out so tomorrow probably rests on those early overs. I hope we declare reasonably early (despite the Sussex defeat) as a draw is no good for anyone and over 300 is a good lead and a test for our young bowlers. Suspect it will depend on our new ball bowling and the batting of Lees and their overseas two. Will be an interesting day whatever.

  11. Guest and du Plooy batted with the awareness, control, and confidence required, and have put us in the driving seat. A century in both innings is rare, but Leus was superb, as was Guest, especially after it looked we'd be skittled out for a piddly score.
