Durham v Derbyshire day 3-4

Please put your final day thoughts in here.

Normal service will be resumed over the weekend!

  1. So close to victory! What I can't understand is why Wayne wasn't given a bowl. Thomson's off spin put Durham under pressure, finishing with the remarkable figures of 16-1-8-1. Surely Wayne's part time spin at the other end was worth a try?

  2. I hope there is no criticism as to the decision to bat on today.

Hindsight is wonderful but I had the draw as far the likeliest outcome overnight so to get within , if not a sniff, but a couple of lengths of a win is encouraging. Sensible captaincy to bat Durham out of it first.

Notts (who really ought to be promoted by now / if you read certain SM sites a few miles east), got a beleaguered by Glam but drew comfortably in the end.

I don’t subscribe to the notion that it’s Notts plus one from Glamorgan, Worcestershire, Derbyshire, and Middx.

Its 2 from 5 IMO given our neighbours’ proclivity to do a Devon Loch.

  3. I was disappointed that we couldn't force a win, but Durham just stonewalled our bowlers. When two wickets fell in the final over before tea, it looked like a victory was on the cards. Sadly, it wasn't the case.

    1. It was pointed out on the commentary yesterday that since the square has been relaid at the Riverside it's been a struggle to bowl sides out in the fourth innings

  4. Typo! Thomson's bowling figures should read 16-11-8-1. And while I'm on here again, surely it's time for Harry Came to be given a chance at the top of the order to replace Billy while the skipper tries to find form in the second XI

    1. Agree re Harry Came. Just watched him score 89 and 117 for the seconds at Queens Park.
      Michael from Chesterfield.

  5. Could have scored quicker at the end of Day 3 perhaps? But given our struggle finding fit bowlers, not too much of a surprise, and as Mickey says it was good to be calling the shots again.

  6. I think we were a liitle scarred by what happened earlier in the season so erred on the high side for a target.

But equally I only watched the last ten overs and I didn't see either batsman looking really in trouble. And that's not a criticism of the bowlers more a reflection of the pitch and the fact that other than first thing each morning, wickets were hard to come by.
Onwards and upwards, and I think the real question is - when does Billy G get pulled to one side and told to have a bit of a rest?

  7. I think Billy should be given a rest. He's gone out to open the batting fourteen times now and hasn't score more than 38. His average is 15. However, it seems Mickey isn't prepared to drop his captain. I was surprised when he was given a one-year contract extension a few weeks ago.

Billy's loss of form goes back to last season, when he took a break for a few games for personal reasons. He had a good season in 2019, scoring over 1,000 runs in the CC and hitting four centuries, but since then, sadly, he's been on a downward trajectory
