Glamorgan v Derbyshire day 1

Glamorgan 481-8 (Donald 234, Davis 5-123)

v Derbyshire

It was a busy day for me today so I only ducked in and out of the action from Colwyn Bay.

That was pretty much what spectators were doing, as the home side amassed almost 500 runs in the day and the highly talented Aneurin Donald amassed fifteen sixes on his way to a career-best 234.

Warm congratulations go to Will Davis, in completing a first five-wicket haul in the county game, while Tony Palladino bowled with great accuracy in taking 3-65.

The rest won't remember the day with great fondness, but the two young players  - and the supporters - will certainly do so.

More from me tomorrow.

  1. Shocking effort again, nearly five hundred runs scored in one day is the sign of a side who've given up in this championship, and I'm not talking about Glamorgan. I said we wouldn't win a championship game quite a while ago, and I stick by that prediction. Progress?, don't think so Peakfan.

    1. Sorry mark, I agree that our attack is pretty anaemic but this was being on the wrong end of a fluke, a strike rate of 172 is ridiculous.

  2. I agree Anon...Donald is a good player but by all accounts he hit hard and often...on another day he could have gone for thirty.

Short boundaries make for fast scoring but we shot ourselves in the foot with dropped catches

It's pretty poor stuff isn't it? Going for that amount of runs isn't really acceptable if we hope to lift our level of performances in this form of the game (ie the 'proper' stuff).

  4. It will be interesting to see if Derbyshire can avoid the follow on,their shaky Championship form does not inspire confidence. If Critchley is to have any chance of taking wickets,he needs to bowl much earlier than he did today.I am not convinced that we needed to change the captain from last season, there now seems to be an on field committee in place.

  5. No anonymous, just downright awful bowling I'd imagine.

    1. Key word is 'imagine'. Poor fielding in dropping catches but got to give Donald credit for a top knock. Players should be given credit for that sort of knock whoever is bowling

  6. Isn't letting the last man standing from the 1st innings open the 2nd more akin to lower level Sunday league club cricket ?

  7. No mate, its common sense. If he is in and got hands feet and eyes working it makes sense. Especially when it appears Billy is indisposed since he didnt bat three...

I commented last week that we would struggle to win a game linked to our ability to take 20wickets
Here is an interesting stat 6 opposition players have registered Personal Bests this Campaign
    Joyce Sussex 250
    Browne Essex 255
    Northeast Kent 191
    Dickson Kent 207*
    Norwell Gloucestershire 102(night watchman)
Donald Glamorgan 234 ( maiden ton/fastest double century!!)
Either that is rotten luck or we are some way short
Our opening bowlers would be 1st change / cover in other squads
We have no Spinner that can keep an end tight and no strike bowler

  9. Your main spinner getting 8 overs in a score of over 500? Why is he playing?

    ReplyDelete
  10. ......Because he is a young leg spinner and therefore dogma states he must be nurtured.

Oh and we absolutely nothing else
