Gloucestershire v Derbyshire day 4

Well, at 34-3 this morning we dared to dream, but the unquestionable talents and experience of Alex Gidman eventually saw Gloucestershire home by 7 wickets in the early afternoon.

No need to belabour this one as I’ve covered it elsewhere tonight.

We can and will do better than this and can start against Leicestershire later this week.

  1. We can't paper over the cracks here. This was a 'poor' showing. We need to make changes for Leicestershire and see what others can do. Let Footit at them with the new ball and bring in Khwaja and maybee Needham for some variation. Give Jones, Palladino and Durston a rest!

  2. Think gary park will be luckly to start against leicestershire, his form been shocking for a year now.

  3. Park had a poor season in 2010, but I think he was dropped too early and not given other chances, unlike some others. 2009 suggests class that, given a reasonable chance, will out. I don't think it was wise to let him bat out of position when he is trying to recapture form, and still less to judge him on one match when so many others failed. I'd stick with him, but not with Durston, from whom I've seen nothing to convince me that he can prosper at this level, or (with a very heavy heart) Redfern, who has made no progress whatsoever in the past two years, and perhaps needs different coaching or mentoring than he has received at Derby before he delivers on his full potential.

  4. What is Park's position then? Basically I feel that if you can bat you'll get runs at this level no matter where you bat. Durston, Park and Redfearn didn't perform well in the championship last season and all 3 failed again at Bristol which must be a worry!

  5. Off the field I'd like this farce with John Morris' contract sorting asap.
Who ever is running the club should come out and make a statement on the situation and answer the question; Have the club offered Mr. Morris an extended contract or not?
The continued speculation can't be good for anyone.

  6. Sorry, would have added this earlier if I'd seen it first. JM's comment tonight in the DET about the need for patience in the first innings was "We keep making the point but it doesn't seem to be adhered to enough."

This is the same old same old from last year and the year before. It's JM's job to make sure they hear and adhere, and if they aren't doing either, the question we have to ask is of him, not them.

  7. I dont see how Morris contract talks are causing unrest. If the players cant do what they are told then send them to the 2s

  8. Why is park getting all the blame. It wasnt just him that failed

  9. Park did nothing with the bat the whole of last season hes been a player going backwards and is too much of a bit part player for my liking.

i think chris grant will want to take alook at things before deciding about john morris future, we finished bottom last season and whats the rush cant see a big rush for john morris services from another county. so it all in derbyshire hands.

  10. Park is playing out of position. You would see same results if you sent another player who isnt used to dealing with new ball. No strength in depth we lose borra and no other opener?? Thats not good team plannin

  11. to the opening poster if we rest them who do we replace them with

  12. Thanks for the debate guys. In the absence of Bozza we do seem light on natural openers. Its fine to say drop Park, but there's not many options for that berth. Yes, he had a poor season last year, but he wasn't alone in that.
