Yes, they can, if the right Derbyshire turns up.
Daryn Dupavillon said on the club site today that consistency is the issue. When we play well, we can give anyone a good game, but frustratingly we have failed to do so on enough occasions so far.
There is no Mitch Wagstaff after his concussion episode in the second team game this week, so the choice would appear to be between playing an extra batter, Sam Conners or Alex Thomson. That will depend on the pitch and it's a hard one to call.
The Derbyshire squad:
Donald, Lloyd, Madsen, Fletcher, Whiteley, Patel, Guest, Thomson, Chappell, Brown, Dupavillon, Dal, Came, Reece, Conners
I suspect the first eleven named will be the likely side.
There is no Will Young in the Nottinghamshire squad. The Kiwi has had a wretched competition so far, averaging only nine from six innings. Ben Martindale played in the last game and may well do so tomorrow.
The Nottinghamshire squad:
Clarke, Hales, Harrison, James, King, Lister, Martindale, McCann, Montgomery, Moores, Patterson-White, Pennington, Stone
As I said before, the first game, getting Clarke and Hales early is the key to beating Nottinghamshire. The middle order has been shown to be fragile and while it may choose to fire tomorrow night, there are opportunities for Derbyshire if we play with focus and aggression.
I would still like to see us better utilise Ross Whiteley and maintain that he could be very effective in the power play. With his power, if he came off he would win a game, if he didn't, there are other good options to follow.
The weather is set fair and there will undoubtedly be a large crowd for this one. It would be fantastic to beat Nottinghamshire in their own back yard and go into the final six matches with a shout of qualification for the knockouts.
Let's see which Derbyshire side turns up.
I think everyone is watching the football Steve, turns out England are no more likely to win than Derbyshire. A bit like the England team which Derbyshire team will turn up. As someone once said when their good their very very good. When their bad their horrid.Possible the most important game so far if we are to qualify. You need to see evidence that Derbyshire can win 5 from 6 if we lose their simply isn't any that they have the consistency to do that. Big game for Mickey given CC standings.

Yes, Steve, which Derbyshire team will turn up? Derbyshire A or Derbyshire B? I agree that, most likely, the first eleven names will be the starting XI. I hope Samit drops down and Whiteley moves up.
ReplyDeleteI think the game tonight is pivotal, win and we are in the mix for top 4 , lose and I think it's too much to recover our position.Notts are done and dusted in this competition so never a better time to play them .We need clarity of thought tonight in terms of selection and game approach , but we should prevail. Amir ,if he joins ,would then add something different to the attack as we look to win 4 from 6 .
ReplyDeleteOh well 😒
DeleteConsistency is the key and that has been lacking for sometime. We seem capable of a good session or day but cannot maintain that over a longer period. Not sure what the problem is whether it’s phycological or just struggling to get that winning habit.
ReplyDeleteHope Derbyshire turn up and put a smile on our faces this evening, especially after watching England last night.
Nudger
Well Alex Thomson plays so that's a step in the right direction.Cam Fletcher at No 3 but Samit still down to come in before Ross. The pressure is on tonight a must win game. Let's see what their made of.

We just can't score big, happens time and time again relying on one or two players in the team to smack us some runs. Donald is single handedly carrying this batting unit, bar a couple of half decent knocks every now and again from one or two others. It's a big problem that we suffer from every single season, why can't we ever get the recruitment right?.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like it will be it now and what a disappointing campaign it's been, Mickey Arthur has a lot to answer for, as that's two competitions so far we're failing in
Well that's all but it in the t20 blast for another year. Another game their to be won. I was happy to be chasing 174 their was no reason that couldn't be done. Alex did OK. Dupavillon bounced back well with his third over, Samit showed again he's still got something to offer. Pat Brown slightly expensive but again he took wickets. Donald with his best spell of t20 batting in his entire career 3 fifties in 4 innings for the first time ever in t20 cricket. 34 for off 4 overs to win should have been achieved but yet again we come up short. Wayne wasn't quite as fluid as we know he can be and we're just far to reliant on him to get us home. The Chappel experiment didnt work but at least we tried something different. I think i would still prefer to see Guest at 5. I'm not sure theirs even a place for Ross in the team unless someone can clearly define to me what it actually is. He should have gone in when Chappel did as he's a more finely skilled batter/hitter. What will now happen now the pressure is off is Derbyshire will probably win 3 from 6 but unfortunately that won't be enough and we won't qualify.
