Sussex v. Derbyshire day 3

It was another day when I didn't see much of the cricket, but Derbyshire made a good fist of the first two sessions, before Sussex fought back in the evening.

What was your take on the day? And on George Scrimshaw being banned from bowling for the rest of the innings?

I should be home for lunch tomorrow, so I should see what will hopefully be an exciting afternoon run chase.

Predictions?

  1. I was at Hove today for a good chunk of the day, and, overall, I think we did well. Sam Connors was a revelation with the bat!

I didn't see the George Scrimshaw incident, but I was baffled that the umpires have ruled he can't bowl any more in the innings because of three bouncers in one over. I wasn't aware of that rule. I'm pretty sure I've seen other bowlers bowl three bouncers in an over.

If we can dismiss Sussex before lunch tomorrow, then we have a chance to win this game.

  2. Sussex were 1-2, then later 72-4 and it was looking good for us. But then the match got away from us. The limitations of our fast bowling attack have been exposed again. Scrimshaw was the notable exception in the first innings and now he has been banned from bowling in the second innings due to being guilty of intimidatory tactics. Foolish or what? Earlier our batsmen did extremely well and the tail "wagged" effectively. Thomson's 4 wickets would normally point to the pitch deteriorating but apparently this is not the case which means a run chase could be on the cards for us tomorrow. But we have got to bowl them out first, meaning Lakmal, Conners, Dal and Reece must stop up to the plate and take wickets!

  3. No predictions with this Derbyshire team Steve, other than unpredictability!
Enjoy your afternoon watching, a red ball win would be nice.
Funnily enough, and I know results don't lie, but I've thought we haven't been a million miles away in red ball cricket, and Sussex are up there this season. It's just a case of some awful sessions, like the first morning here. Maybe something a coach could work on? 🤔

  4. Might be unfair but it looked pretty mindless of Scrimshaw to test the umpires nerve with the last of the 3 high balls in the over. Without him Derbyshire's chances are much worse but we still have a good shout for a win. Will they inspire us or revert to type?

  5. Could be an interesting last day although the loss of Scrimshaw is a blow. I wasn’t fully au fait with that ruling regarding the number of bouncers in an over. The seam attack looks less threatening in his absence and just hope that does not have a detrimental affect on the outcome today. We certainly have the batting to win the game dependent on a realistic declaration that gives both teams a chance of victory.

    Nudger
