Yet another profit announced

Eleven profits in twelve years represents an astonishing piece of work by Derbyshires off field team.

Turning in a profit of £11K last year, which was challenging and which also saw more money than ever before ploughed into the cricket side, is a quite remarkable feat.

Everyone involved deserves the highest praise for their efforts and as supporters, we can admire the fact that the club is as well run as any in the country.

Yes, we would like to see that translated into results on the pitch, but perhaps that is coming as a consequence of the additional investment.

Over the winter there has been significant investment in the players’ changing rooms, LED lighting has been installed in the Ryley Wealth Elite Performance Centre, ground-wide Wi-Fi has been improved and a new 900-seater stand has been erected adjacent to the Media Centre.

Well done, to each and every one of you.

  1. While to be commended somewhat, I'll post the same comment I post every year that we are a cricket club not a business first and foremost. We finished bottom of the Championship and had no knock-out cricket. Yet one excuse is we cannot compete with the financial might of the big boys. We should have a sustainable financial plan of investment that pays off over time.

    1. Fair comment, but a profit of 11k shows they lived within their means. If they made one of 100K, which could have been ploughed into another player, perhaps a different stance from me. But players we signed last year would have stretched the budget and to still stay the right side is an achievement

  2. i used to do the accounts for DCCC MANY YEARS AGO dor a well known local firm of accountants, i always thought financial contro;s were good , even then, and the ground was appalling , Bob Willis once said it was the worst ground on the circuit.
so to improve the ground so much= an=d still show a profit is impressive

  3. There was some very interesting chat at the AGM about levels of debt and the checks the ECB are putting in place to ensure the counties use the windfall from the Hundred appropriately etc.

Too much for me to repeat here, but as we have very little debt compared to several other counties we would be in a favourable position. The ECB want counties ideally to be debt free, so we wouldn't need to use a significant portion of the 20 to 25 million to achieve this. There was also reference to the fact that although this money cannot be used directly to sign the 'Pat Cummins of this world', any revenue received from investment etc can be ploughed back in to the cricket budget, and again, with low levels of existing debt this puts us in a good position.

So, I agree with Steve, the efforts of all those in achieving another year of profit and ensuring the club is on a sound financial footing, should be applauded.

  4. I’ve just renewed my membership I’ve been a member since 1983 although I am approaching 65 I’m still working including night shifts and therefore restricted as to when I can attend I seriously considered whether I can justify the cost of £378 including the privilege of parking my car this year, I also didn’t realise that the club no longer has a senior citizen membership , with every match free to watch on YouTube I am seriously wondering why bother? Add on travel costs I live in Swadlincote and the extortionate price of food and drink on the ground add to the fact that the club officially does not allow drinks of any sort to be brought into the ground in bottles or cans it’s only implemented on big match days when stewards search bags on entry is it really worth it being a member?

    1. I checked this with the club KJB - Club Membership for renewing Members was priced at £219 during the Priority Window (Sept – end Nov) and a Car Park Pass for Members is £99 (all season for Members). Perhaps you paid the full Membership price, which came into effect in February (£259), plus a Car Park Pass separately, as opposed to choosing the Members option (£119). That brings it to £378. The Ticket Office can refund the £119 and re-issue at £99 if you contact info@derbyshireccc.com, call 01332 388 101, or visit the Reception. So that’ll bring it back down to £358. And if renewed earlier it could be as low as £318.

Leicestershire charge £600 for the same deal.. it's a fair point regarding the stream, but if I lived closer, it doesn't compare to being on the ground and watching the game with friends.

I'm not saying it's cheap, but if you renew early and attend regularly you can watch your cricket for £6 a day

Ground regulations can be found via the link below and food etc can be brought into all Derbyshire matches. Alcohol is limited to 4 standard sized cans (or equivalent) for non-T20 matches and no alcohol for T20.

Hope that helps, but please contact the club with any further questions
