Derbyshire v Oxford UCCE day 2

Derbyshire 341-4 and 219-4 (Madsen 53 retired, Reece 39 retired, Khan 3-22)

Oxford UCCE 123 all out (Faleel 41,

It was another good day and another good workout for Derbyshire today.

The bowlers did their stuff, dismissing Oxford before lunch with all six bowlers used taking at least one wicket. Then afterwards there was more time in the middle, with Wayne Madsen moving serenely to a half century before he retired

There was an earlier than planned dismissal for Nye Donald and he will hope for additional time in the middle in the next game against SACA.

If one assumes that this is the batting lineup for the first game, one of them will need to drop out to accommodate Caleb Jewell.

That will be the first big decision of the summer for Mickey. Arthur.

While the result of this game is largely irrelevant, Derbyshire will hope for another good bowling performance tomorrow and a morale-boosting win.

445 runs ahead, it is fair to say they shouldn't be in danger of losing...

  1. I think Jewell for Donald and Brown in for Potts for the first game. Grant from Telford.

Hopefully tomorrow the spinners will do nearly all the bowling to get a good workout too

  3. Some interesting discussion at the AGM last night including information about the plans for how best to use the windfall from the Hundred, and that MA's stint with Northern Superchargers is very much a advisory role and we are being compensated for this.

There was some prime 'comedy gold', with an assertion from the top table that all the players loved playing for MA, and they were playing the best cricket of their lives. Maybe they had inadvertently spent the whole season watching cricket at the Oval!

To be fair, the Chairman didn't totally agree with the second part of that observation.

    1. Probably reflects on how little cricket the management board actually watches

    2. To be fair, they are not all there for their cricketing acumen, but the business skills and knowledge they hold. But they have some good cricket knowledge there now, with Tom Poynton and Chris Pager, as well as Daryn Smit

    3. Agree with you about the management board stick to the off field business and not making silly comments regarding the cricket
