Reece extends contract as Davis leaves

Yesterday's news that Luis Reece has signed an improved and extended contract that sees him remain at the club until the end of 2021 is welcome  and very exciting.

Today's news that Will Davis is leaving the club is sad, but tinged with an inevitability that doesn't make it such a surprise.

Both are worthy of more time than I have at present, when I am at my parents with things to do.

I travel home tomorrow and will give both the time and space that they deserve over the course of the weekend.

  1. Of the three contract related matters announced:-
1 Reece - excellent news. He's got the talent to be a true all rounder. A nagging pace could turn him into a big wicket taker if used well. Think we all agree that a fit Reece could have made the difference this season.
2 Davis - very disappointed. Can't say that I've seen him that much but I did watch him at Colwyn Bay a couple of years ago when he took his seven wickets and then again at the start of last season against Northants when he looked better than the rest. Just wonder who has made this decision - input from physios etc. Notice that Cotton has got inot the Northants side since Gleeson left and has taken wickets and that Tim Taylor took four for Leics this week. Can't feel the loss of Davis can be a positive
3 Dal - not sure about this although accepting it's a one year deal. Love his enthusiasm but I'm not sure he justifies his batting place although at no8 he's always going to be shoring up the tail. Certainly adds to the fielding but I'm afraid he wouldn't make my first eleven

    1. I think the key words on Davis are 'two years ago' Lion. He has rarely been fit for successive matches and patience wears thin. If you are good at your job but never there, your employer would think similarly.
Agree on Dal but he needs to work hard this winter

Was Will Davis offered a new contract, that he did not want to sign or just not offered an extension.

    1. I don't think he was offered one. For all his talent, injury made him unavailable for selection.
Maybe he will 'do a Footitt' and go well down the road, but he needs a really good and fit year.
