Have to say that old Peakfan is looking forward to a trip to the County Ground tomorrow night to see this one, not least because my son is coming along for his first taste of county cricket action in some time (and quite likely his first taste of Theakston's in the bar...)
I would love to see Derbyshire produce a good display against the table-toppers, but I will reserve judgement on that one. We need to make a good fist of batting, as our bowling is largely taking care of itself. Few teams have really collared us this summer, but the concern is usually whether the batting will implode in chasing a target.
Derbyshire have announced the following squad for the game:
Chesney Hughes, Usman Khawaja, Wes Durston, Wayne Madsen (Captain), Dan
Redfern, Ross Whiteley, Richard Johnson (Wicketkeeper), Alex Hughes,
Jonathan Clare, David Wainwright, Tony Palladino, Tim Groenewald and
Mark Turner.
My guess would be that Jonathan Clare and Tony Palladino may miss out, the latter to give him a breather after his heroics against Kent and in the light of his non-appearance in one-day matches this summer. That leaves a long batting order, good bowling options and enough talent to give the unbeaten league leaders a game. I think we would have beaten them earlier in the summer had the weather not intervened, so the game need not be a foregone conclusion, especially with Derbyshire buoyant after the stunning championship win.
I'll hopefully see you down there!
