Worcestershire won by 175 runs
Only late and spirited resistance from Luis Reece (49) Amrit Basra (40) and Nick Potts (29) took the game into the afternoon. Derbyshire recovered from 39-6 to 157 all out, but that late resistance shouldn't mask another woeful batting display.
I take nothing away from Ben Allison, who took 6-42 in a fine display of bowling, but nothing in the demeanour of the Derbyshire top order suggested that the home side would need to wait unduly long for their end of season party.
So it transpired.
I will have more to say in my end of season review, which should be published tomorrow morning.

I have just heard MA on Radio Derby. Apparently criticism of him is water off a ducks back as it comes from ignorant people who do not understand. This is a new low, we now have a head coach who doesn’t deliver anything and then insults those of us who think that he is part of the problem.

Take away Madsen’s effort in the first innings and Reece and the tail enders today, the batting performance has been unacceptable.
ReplyDeleteWe bowled reasonably well at times, but let Worcester off the hook yesterday evening. Whether Waite’s effort was really crucial is debatable.
I think most other clubs would have moved Arthur on long before now. He is way out of excuses.

Well played Luis Reece. You batted like a competent first class cricketer, who knows their game but can also bring a plan to a particular game situation. A hand injury contributed to his innings being brought to a premature close. Shame, deserved a 50. As for most of the rest, oh dear! Body language of the batters was redolent of reluctantly facing Lillee and Thomson on a quick wicket at Perth Ashes 74-75. But they weren’t facing Lillee and Thomson. Struggled to see a plan or purpose with the way they went about the innings. That should be a minimum requirement. Sad end to the season.
ReplyDeleteAnother pretty woeful batting performance. Credit to Reece, Basra and Potts for showing some fighting spirit. You're going to struggle to win games when your top order fails to fire.

ReplyDeleteVery predictable end to a very predictable season. It’s easy work being a Derbyshire player. Completely carried by two players this season although a different two to the couple who have done it for years and years. The rest just about manage one half decent performance every six or Seven games to keep in the team. Same for next season with the same excuses and the same positions in each competition although the championship might possibly be slightly lower. Interesting that he signed the left arm seamer said he very much liked what he saw and obviously liked it so much he never picked him( other for the game when he didn’t get a chance to bowl) also picking Basra then batting him at 8. What a wonderful confidence booster that must be to a young batsman. Dismal end to a on the whole dismal season

ReplyDeleteA typical end of season performance. Not worth worrying about really, especially short of so many players. Would say 4 wins in CC is pretty good. What we have lost, is the ability to battle. See you next year! Kris
ReplyDeleteIt definiately had a "last game of the season" feel to that performance. To get the best out of Wayne Madsen he needs to come in when it isn't next to nothing (or nothing in one case this season) for 2. The top 3 line up needs a good looking at before next season. With the main top 3 all averaging below 30 (Came 24.52, Montgomery 26.04, Jewell 22.35) this means on a number of occasions the middle order is under pressure facing the new ball.

On field product largely woeful.
Off field food options at my latest CC visits equally so. A few nuked pasties and sausage rolls is not a catering operation. How hard is it to provide a few sandwiches, decent cake and breakfast sandwiches to start the day off?
We're not all interested in beer either.
Come on DCCC, up your game and show us some value as day supporters or ST holders.

Totally agree Andy. When I visited this year and stayed in the hotel on the ground, I would have taken a sarnie back to the hotel, but there were none, as you say. And since I didn't fancy navigating Pentagon island just to get to Morrisons, I ate at the hotel... Opportunity missed!
