Tonight's game

That was seriously impressive.

I'd be hard put to find fault in the performance of an essentially young team. They battled with the bat and Wayne Madsen looks better every time I see him.

In the field they were superb, with Wes Durston holding a blinder at slip, Steve Adshead leading the field with encouraging handling and shouting (as well as holding an excellent catch himself) and everyone contributing.

Waggy did what he has regularly done, but the talking point has to be Mark Footitt.

That was seriously quick and I loved to hear Michael Holding chuckle at his express pace.

More tomorrow, but that was brilliant.

  1. Yep. Excellent performance. On that evidence (and a big IF he can stay fit), that was international class from Footitt. Quality bowler.

  2. What's going on?

You might be right with Madsen batting in the middle order - raises issues with the opening positions then, mind.

Although Footitt's figures for the season are relatively modest, there is certainly something there. With proper support and increased confidence, he might give us that cutting edge that has been missing for a long time.

I now hope the form of the past couple of games follows them into the CC fixture tomorrow.

P.S. I have started to shape up my list of possible player targets, but only from 1st team squads across the national circuit. As I write, my 'long list' numbers 32, but after you knock off players for various reasons (doesn't quite fit the bill, too expensive etc.), I come down to a 'short list' of 9 (incl. Adshead). Whether they are all likely to be available is another thing. (3 bats, 2 keepers, 3 seamers and a spinner).

I'll probably dabble again during the week and look at potential Buck replacements.

  3. Look forward to seeing your names MV!
Yes, seriously impressive tonight, even if someone on 606 doesn't agree (sigh...)

  4. Great win last night and Footit has gone up in my estimation again after I wasn't sue about him earlier in the season. Give him a new contract now!
Wagg has given the team a spark and we must do what ever we can to keep him. English players just a bit better than Wagg are playing for England and I think that we would struggle to replace him with someone as good. If he goes we probably will end up paying a lot more for someone who is not as good!

  5. I think greg smith is really coming on as a captain, his field settings have been great recently, the motivation seems back with the players, and he's made some good decisions as well, bowling waggy straight though was a master decision, (maybe middlesex should have done it with collins) yesterday. the sky guys think that madson should have battled higher but the reason for that is madson is our best player of spin and having him around in the middle part of the innings is important so we can keep milking the spinners.

    that's my thinking anyway peakfan.

  6. I don't have sky and couldn't watch the match, but have always been interested as to what the actual speeds Footitt bowls, what where the mph's of the balls he was sending down?

Great result, hopefully continue like this until the end of the season now. Makes it more frustrating to have seen the earlier abject performances in the season!

  7. After a first ball at 86mph he was consistently between 89 and 93...
Seriously quick and Michael Holding loved it!
