Derbyshire v Sussex day 1

The forecast didn't suggest much play today and it wasn't wrong.

Looking at the photos of the ground today, coupled with tomorrow's forecast, they will be lucky to get any tomorrow, either..

  1. This would seem like a good time to give Wagstaff and Potts a bit more first class experience, assuming the game gets started. Martin

  2. A doleful, grey end to a doleful, grey season.
Never downbeat for long though Steve, looking forward to a biggie in '24 - and it will have to be, especially for our coach

Quick question for you whilst on the subject of ex Derbyshire players. Couple of seasons now for Matt Critchley at Essex, and Finn at Sussex. Would you say they have progressed, or been better staying with us?

    1. Agreed on the importance of 2024 Dave..

As for the 2 you name, Fynn wanted to be near family and it was the right move on that basis. Averages 49 with the bat and has 19 wkts this year. Not sure he has progressed, but he is happy, which counts for a lot.

Critch averages just under 50 with nearly a thousand runs and has definitely kicked on with the bat. He has only had 100 overs this year, and Harmer basically bowls at one end for most of the summer.

He is doing it in a higher division, so you would have to say he has kicked on. I would love to see him back, but I would be surprised if it happened!

    2. Yes, my thoughts too, although wasn’t aware of the family reasons with Fynn. Thanks for that..

  3. Looking at the forecast for the rest of the week it seems likely that this could turn into a 2 day match which might be interesting.

    1. It will take some effort to get the outfield playable after this rain. Might just have a 50 over bash on the last day! 😉
