It does pose the question as to why he was included for that game when he clearly wasn't fit, but I dare say we will find out in due course.
I think it would be an idea to leave out Ross Whiteley tomorrow and allow Yusaf Bin Naeem an opportunity to impress. Of course, the contracts of both are up at the end of the season and each will want the opportunity. Yet Yusaf has a longer potential career ahead of him and I would like to think that bigger picture is looked at.

Glamorgan are laudably encouraging youth and there is no place for Messrs Northeast, Ingram, Van Der Gugten and Cooke in their squad.
They have named the following:
Carlson, Hurle, Root, Harris, Gorvin, Morris, Leonard, ul Hassan, Smale, Horton, Tribe, Franco, Byrom
There is a chance of a shower tomorrow at Neath, but hopefully not enough to intrude too much on what should be a good game.
There is enough in the Derbyshire side to win it, but the bowling unit has to do better than it did at Cheltenham. With the batting that we have, keeping them to under 300 gives us a chance.
Let's see what tomorrow brings!
One of Whiteley or Potts to miss out. I would probably play Ross as he does have the ability to win us a game on his day. We will still have 6 bowlers. Grant from Telford
ReplyDeleteLaudable indeed from Glamargon Steve. On paper (ha) we should win this one. A defeat here would damage our chances immeasurably - already. The bowling attack for both sides is youthful, but our batting surely has the beating of Glamorgan, man for man.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Bin Naeem in for Whiteley for me. I see no reason for Whiteley to be in next seasons plans while Bin Naeem needs the opportunity to show that he should be.
ReplyDeleteIt's a long tail Peakfan we'd better hope the top 6 fire!Topspinner.
ReplyDeleteI think we bat to nine, Ben can handle a bat and we don't yet know Hawkins stronger suit, but he is a talent
DeleteSurely Whiteley has got to miss out. You wouldn’t have thought he will be around next season. Or anyone else would want him apart from possibly for t20 and even that is debatable
ReplyDeleteBut can we afford to play Potts with the prospect of him being hit to all parts of the ground? Grant from Telford
DeleteYou could turn that around, Grant and say can we afford to play Ross, as he might fail again? I take your point, but Potts needs to show if the real him is his first three overs at Cheltenham, or his last spell. That was the best closing spell by a Derbyshire seamer in white ball cricket this year, for me. Admittedly there is a low bar...
DeleteIf he plays I hope he improves. I have nothing against the lad but each time I have seen him he has been hit around the ground. I don’t think we can afford another repeat as it could cost us the game, more so than if Whiteley gets another low score. I don’t think either will have their contracts extended. Grant from Telford
DeleteThe 'Derby side'?! 😉
ReplyDeleteWell done Tim!
DeleteYeah sorry, I largely dictate my blogs to save my arthritic hands and then tidy up at the end. Unless I say 'DerbySHIRE' it sometimes misses the final syllable, which it did here and then I didn't spot it. Because I hate the 'Derby' usage as much as anyone..
DeleteBin Naeem has to play. I’d leave Whiteley out. Time for change.

For me Bin Naeem should play (instead of Whiteley). We have so many promising youngsters that we need to give them experience. Potts should also be retained to give him a good run in the team.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it’s because I haven’t been able to follow cricket closely for around 50 years but I really don’t understand why we have a one-day specialist batter (Whiteley) but he doesn’t bat until number 7 when the game is generally either won or (more often unfortunately) lost.
