Derbyshire 244: Godleman 111; Gleeson 5-64, Mahmood 3-45
Lancashire 20-1: Rampaul 1-4
A captain's innings from Captain Fantastic Billy Godleman single-handedly steered Derbyshire to a respectable first innings score at Old Trafford today, on a wicket that appears to have done something all day.
The skipper's knock ensured that our innings was competitive, although no one else really got going to lend the requisite support.
The home side struggled in their reply, so it is hard to assess the merits of that Derbyshire first innings right now.
We will have a better idea tomorrow, then I look forward to watching the last two days on the stream.
But tonight, let's toast the captain.
He really has had a special summer.
More from me tomorrow.
Went along and an interesting day. Pitch was a used one and seemed difficult to score off if bowling straight despite a very short boundary on one side. Billy’s innings was typically him. Solid defence and the odd wild charge out of nowhere. Seemed to wind up the Lancashire fielders as there were words back and forward towards the end. No one really stuck around with him although Matt Critchley looked good and Qadri showed he could hold a bat at the end with some nice shots. Dal got a great ball first up (he seems to attract them unfortunately!) and Harvey seemed to get a nick on his as there was a double sound.
ReplyDeleteWeather looks a bit dubious tomorrow am and Thursday pm but suspect there will be enough time on this pitch to get a result
A great innings by Godleman and some celebration when he reached three figures. Shame - was all going well until Madsen was out the last ball before lunch but Gleeson did have a terrific spell either side of the break. It was less a case of poor batting but good bowling. I didn't think the spinners were too effective but the idea of Lancashire batting last must have been a factor in batting first. Again felt sorry for Dal and I can't see the point of him coming in so late in the order.
ReplyDeleteFanatastic knock from godleman..with madsen theyve been excellant thru the summer..du ploy also..and ravi..the whole team spirit/ ethos since the leicestershire debacle.
ReplyDeleteHas been nothing short of a renaissance!.
C'mon you falcons..
