Whiteley leaves

Disappointing news today with the departure of Ross Whiteley to Worcestershire with immediate effect.

I'll have a few thoughts on that later today, but thought I'd just highlight the departure at this early stage in my lunch break.

More later.

  1. Looks like there has been some huge falling out somewhere along the line as surely we don't jettison a promising player on winter plans, although clearly the club thinks all the trips abroad last winter didn't do any of the players much good (which can't really be argued against). He has clearly gone from a new contract and a place in the England Hong Kong sixes squad to a person we don't want to keep around. It can't all be about performance as he has only played 4 first class games all season so that surely couldn't have influenced the coach that much? Maybe we've realised we shouldnt have put all the youngsters on such long contracts and are trying to free up some space on the wage bill??

  2. Is it a loan deal Peakfan?. If it's on a permanent deal, wow, he really must've found himself well and truly out of the picture. Hope he doesn't come back and bite us in the you know what.

  3. Peakfan, have you heard anything about Abie Morkel leaving us aswell?. Rumours are he's returned to South Africa.

  4. Morkel has gone. He was always going to play the first 9 T20s anyway. His injury at Chesterfield last week means he can't complete the 9.

  5. I am very disappointed at whiteleys departure. At his best he was destructive with the bat in a way few of our squad are and he also offered great balance. A lot of time and money has gone into his development and it may well be another county reaps the benefit of that. Without descending into conspiracy theories I find it hard to believe a disagreement over winter plans is the only reason for this. But equally I'm not going to speculate wildly without any evidence. At the end of the day it's a talented young cricketer leaving the club: that can never be a good thing. Oh, and I think krik is being somewhat optimistic in saying we have the squad depth to cover this.
