Derbyshire v Scotland

Another win, but credit to the Scots for making it a little closer than we'd have wanted.

Once again Charl Langeveldt struck early, but Scotland's overseas professional Ed Cowan didn't get going and the signs were that we wouldn't have many to chase. Navdeep Poonia, loaned to Scotland by Warwickshire for this competition, had other ideas and batted over two hours for 75. Only Gavin Hamilton lasted long with him, however, and when John Clare finally removed Poonia with the help of James Pipe, the Scotland innings was in terminal decline. From 156-4 the innings collapsed to 169 all out. Langeveldt again impressed with 4-28, while John Clare, who seems to have a great knack of taking wickets, took 3-39. There was also an exemplary spell of slow left arm from Nayan Doshi, as well as a fine catch on the boundary to end the innings.

Steve Stubbings and Chris Rogers made a good start and kept up with the rate, and various stoppages for rain brought the dreaded Duckworth Lewis into the equation. Glenn Rogers bowled his usual canny spell and removed both Stubbo and John Sadler, but there is a little more savvy to this Derbyshire side. Although Rikki Clarke was out after a six and a four in his 15, Dom Telo and James Pipe saw us home with over two overs to spare.

With Durham losing on the last ball to Lancashire, the holders are in danger of going out, while Derbyshire, with 2 wins, a no result and a defeat so far, can be quite happy at the halfway stage in the group.
