No one is putting too much into the friendly match, but it is well attended and shows how spartan the ground was . Sadly the limited coverage didn't cover Les Jackson (retired 2 years) bowling 6-2-9-3 and dismissing Ron Headley, Mushtaq Mohammad and Rohan Kanhai
Nor does it cover the Derbyshire innings, but my word this is wonderful stuff!

ReplyDeleteThere are other matches on the channel from that series...all well worth watching - when the Cavaliers played Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire had Mike Procter and Barry Richards batting together, also worth noting the players that became the umpires that we remember as well as the comments made about the introduction of one-day cricket.
Lovely stuff. Did Sir Frank Whittle Road exist then? They should bring back those benches in a tin shed!

DeleteI’m a little confused my understanding was the square was turned round for the start of the 1964 season facing east west but in the YouTube film the square is clearly north south as it is now
