Apologies for those who have been checking in for the blog. At the end of today's play, I decided to drive back home immediately, rather than spend an extra night in Manchester.
After three and a half hours, I am back, but my blog will need to wait until tomorrow.
Hopefully it is worth it! Thanks for your patience
Disappointing end really, a game we were always chasing after inexplicably putting Lancs into bat first. Just a bit concerned that we're not looking like winning games lately, infact we look more like losing them. We're fighting though at least which is a vast improvement on previous seasons
ReplyDeleteQuite agree about inserting the opposition, apparently as a matter of course and without obvious regard to pitch or weather conditions. All too often, we seem to end up doing things the hard way. Can someone please explain our HOC’s reasoning?
ReplyDeleteHonestly Keith, having chatted about this in Manchester, each decision is made on an individual basis. Our opponents, had they won the toss, intended to do the same thing. Here at Old Trafford, the side of the square used was historically likely to offer the most help on the first morning, being a little damper. Our chances were best at that time and if we had dismissed Wells when we had opportunity it could have been a very different story.
DeleteA couple of times we haven't bowled as well as we might have done, put the decisions, whether we agree with them or not, are made from analytical data and the appearance of the pitch on the day.
Sometimes we get it wrong, but any decision has to be backed by top performance, with bat and ball
Quite agree. Why are we making things harder for ourselves through our desire to insert the opposition, sometimes against all obvious logic? So frustrating … !
