Northamptonshire v Derbyshire One Day Cup

Derbyshire announced the squad for the two weekend games, and it would appear unlikely there were any changes for the trip to Northampton tomorrow.

I am unsure if Wayne Madsen will be available, or if David Lloyd will be fit. If neither of them are, there is a natural vacancy for Matt Lamb.

I won't see much, if any of tomorrow's game, as I will be travelling down to my Mum's and be busy with stuff for her.

Please put any comments and observations  in here and I will perhaps catch up with one or two of you on Tuesday at the Incora County Ground. I won't be there for the full day, but fingers crossed there is good action to watch!

  1. I see Northamptonshire are going through a ‘Godleman’ situation with Josh Cobb. I wonder where he will be playing next year? Craig.

    1. I don't know, Craig. I would take him at Derbyshire, especially for one day cricket, but I am not sure batting is in the greatest need of support.

Good cricketer and, like the Godleman affair, perhaps not especially well handled..

    2. Given Cobb left Leicestershire under a similar cloud and his fitness doesn't seem top notch would prefer we steered clear.

    3. I have read many of your well thought out comments on this page Hamez. Could I ask what info you have that he has fitness issues? Craig.

    4. He is a big built lad and Northy had a few of them. But he can play cricket. I would be surprised if there was interest from us, though. We have other priorities and limited budget

    5. I get this but I genuinely feel that professional cricket can still accommodate the bigger cricketer. I know the Cornwall run out has been doing the rounds to much amusement but just because a player is bigger than average doesn’t mean they aren’t fit. Just watch a rugby league game if you need evidence. Craig

    6. I agree Craig. Mark Cosgrove was never slim but scored a hatful of runs for Leics. Prithvi Shaw isn't svelte either but boy, can he bat! It is an easy target if you fail, but isn't necessarily the reason for it

  2. I agree. I don’t know enough about the inner workings at Northamptonshire to comment but their fans are certainly on the player’s side. I do think I know enough about BG though to say that this is not the ending he would have wished or deserved. Craig

  4. Great game. Fantastic knock by Matt Lamb and Harry Moore looks like he's been around for years. It's a real shame about Lamb's back issues. I saw him get 99 in the dark, against a quality Durham attack in April. Kris

  5. Today we saw why it’s been such a shame Matt Lamb has had such a terrible time with his back injury.

    1. Obvious successor to du Plooy, for me. Different type of player, but a very good one, all the same. Caught the last ten overs or so and he batted very well.

Good all round game for Alex Thomson too, while young Moore looks a good un!

  6. What exactly is the situation with Godleman? Does anyone know? I’ve heard rumours. Good performance today made the journey down there worthwhile. Lamb played a crucial gritty knock and I was very impressed with Moore and Conners.

  7. The rumours are that Lloyd is next 4 day captain and the 2024 T20 captain is currently playing in The Hundred for someone. Kris

    1. I think Lloyd a shoo in for the 4 day...I have heard a (very good) name for the T20 but will leave it to the club to announce whoever it is when they have it all sorted.

Please remember lots of people profess to know things..but not all are true!

  8. A fantastic knock by Lamb, who appeared to be in some discomfort because of his back injury. Guest, Dal, and Thomson provided good support, the latter two making batting look easy. Conners and Thomson bowled tightly and young Harry Moore was also excellent.

  9. Ravi Bopara playing in the hundred and been released by Sussex.

  10. I'm going to make a guess at Wayne Parnell. Kris

    1. With the reference to T20 I'm plumping for Samit Patel. A better batsman and spinner than any of the three we currently employ. Captain material too.

    2. His name keeps coming up in reports. But my understanding is that it might happen, but might not. There is a long way to go and a few things to thrash out beforehand. It has to be right for the player and the club, and although it is not the best kept of secrets, nor is the outcome a foregone conclusion

  11. I don't think people will be disappointed when all is revealed. Good signing for the club and player.
