Derbyshire v Leicestershire day 3

Leicestershire 249 and 131-2 (Evans 59*)

Derbyshire 568-9d (Godleman 158, Reece 116, Madsen 92)

Derbyshire lead by 188 runs

All things being equal, Derbyshire should wrap up a win in their final game of the season tomorrow, tomorrow.

Leicestershire resisted well in their second innings, but the tail appears to be a long one and early wickets tomorrow could well see an afternoon finish.

This morning Billy failed to add to his overnight score, but Madsen and du Plooy batted nicely before the latter rather gave his wicket away. After that it was a case of whether Wayne could reach his century and if Dal could reach his thousand runs for the season.

As it turned out neither happened, but that doesn't change what have been tremendous seasons for both players.

I will be back tomorrow hopefully with news of a season-ending victory.

  1. I was at the match today until the cold wind drove me away at the tea interval. An entertaining day's cricket with lots of runs and wickets though I have to say our bowling at the start of the Leics innings was awful , allowing their openers to get off to a flying start again. We will have to bowl a lot better tomorrow if we are to wrap up victory.

  2. We're in familiar territory here again, one where we think we should finish a team of but always seem to struggle to do so. Wouldn't surprise me if we skittled them out mid afternoon tomorrow, or they bat through it and we fail to finish them off.
It has been our Achilles heel this season, finishing teams off when in a great position, so let's finish on a high please lads

  3. Will we bowl them out tomorrow? Reflecting on the season, it’s noticeable how few stand-out performances there have been from the bowlers in the CC. Only Connors (twice), Lakmal, and Dal have taken fifers, while eight players have scored a total of eighteen centuries. Injuries have, no doubt, been a factor in the bowling department. We’ve used 19 bowlers. Three have been overseas and we’ve had several loanees. Nevertheless, it's not been great this season with the ball.

Bowling has been out weakness, and we have let games slip away. Let's hope this doesn't happen tomorrow.
