Yusuf bin Naeem won the toss and elected to bowl, with his attack doing the necessary in bowling out the visitors for 347. They looked set for more, at one stage being 212-3 and 317-5, but the attack stuck to their task, with Jack Morley taking 4-94 and Finn Gordon 3-45. Meanwhile left-arm seamer Will Rogers, recently engaged on a short-term deal, took 3-47, including the wickets of Josh de Caires and the highly-rated Caleb Falconer, who showed why with 111. Seb Morgan made an unbeaten 67 but they never got away. Theo Brown kept wicket for the Derbyshire side and held a very good one-handed catch.
Derbyshire made it to the close on 52-0, with Mitch Wagstaff and Finn Gordon unbeaten and an exciting middle order of Khushi, Naeem and Basra to follow.
It is good to see some young talent in the side alongside Brown, with Zak Kelly, Joe Hawkins and Matt Stewart also in the eleven.
