Putting to bed the rumours

My understanding, to calm down troubled souls across the shires, is that there is 'absolutely nothing'  in the stories that linked Mickey Arthur to a return to Pakistan.

He remains one hundred per cent committed to the county and it's progression, so we needn't worry about him boarding a plane to Pakistan any time soon.

There may, of course, be other opportunities to coach teams and franchises across the globe out of the English season, but that will, in its own way, merely take the name of Derbyshire into parts of the world where we may be less known and will not impact on his work here.

It may be that his work in Sri Lanka gave hope to some in Pakistan that he was looking at options. It may also be that there was a little 'positioning' taking place among the powers that be in that country, but he is happy and fully committed to the 'Derbyshire project'

I have this from a very trusted source, so worry ye not, Falcons fans. That there has been no comment from the club is likely down to the fact that there is no substance to the story, nor that it is deemed worthy of comment.

So just relax and enjoy the countdown to the season!

  1. Happy new year peakfan

I drove past the county ground myself today as I was on the way over to Notts and by pure chance saw Mickey Arthur pulling out of the ground driving his stickered up/sponsored Mazda at around 3pm. Has to be an excellent sign that he’s down at the ground day to day - wouldn’t be the case if he was off elsewhere surely? And now I am pleased to say your post above has further put my mind at ease!

    Bring on the new season

    1. Stickered/ sponsored cars sounds like a throw back to the 1980's

  2. That is indeed great news.
In transfer window fashion though, it would have been great to also see Babar Azam's car pulling out of the county ground too. 🙂🙂

  3. Magnificent news. Elsewhere, although he is no longer a Derbyshire player, it would be great to see Shan Masood get a big score on day 5 of the Pakistan/NZ Test Match.

  4. Good to hear. However, as I'm something of a pessimist, I await a tweet from Mickey of a Derbyshire related nature before I can relax.

A bit disappointed we've heard no news yet on this, if there is actually any news, might be all total nonsense for all we know. Any latest development on the overseas announcement Peakfan, seemed like there was an imminent announcement a few weeks ago but gone very quiet on that front?

    1. To be fair, CB, my guess would be that the club don't consider the story as to be worthy of reply.

It is one of these all too common concocted tales from people who really should know better. If sports clubs spent all their time responding to such stories they would have little time for other things.

As for the overseas player, contracts can take time to get signed, especially when a player is in one country, his agent in another and the interested club in a third. Of course everything slows down for the festive period anyway.

Again, I understand that they expect to complete the deal this month and I am sure that the news will be well worth waiting for!

    1. To be fair, I would never put anything on the blog with the certainty that I put this last week were I not totally assured and convinced it was true.

Likewise, in my reply to Chesterfield blue a couple of days ago, I noted that the deal should be complete by the end of the month for the overseas player.

I will always endeavour to update on the blog ahead of more generic publications, assuming that the information is out there for those updates!

  7. Hi Steve,

Not Derbs related but I know (think?) you're based North of the border. Any thoughts on Shane Burger leaving Scotland for Somerset?

Who do you think Scotland could target as his replacement?

    1. That's a hard one to answer! I think that the role will attract some very strong candidates and Scotland have done well with their last two appointments.

Kyle Coetzer could be an option from within, but I would expect some very strong candidates!

  8. I heard this confirmed on Radio Derby yesterday. Good to see the club putting this to bed. This wasn't just some social media tittle tattle. It included a piece on a well respected and trusted cricket website, and it's clear conversations were had.

Personally, I would have expected this to have been quashed sooner, but we can now look forward to MA continuing his 'project'.

Let's face it, his tenure here may be over just as 'Bazball, comes to an end. Timing is everything.....

  9. Looks like Micky has taken a Director role with PCB to run in parallel with Derbyshire role , let’s hope he finds the balance point
