v Gloucestershire
On a rain and bad light-ruined day that made a mockery of attempting to play cricket at this time of year, we were put in to bat and, scoring at four an over, did pretty well.
Ben Slater appeared to be in prime touch yet again, frustratingly, got out when well set, albeit on a wicket that would have been lively early on. There's a fine player in there, but he needs to start converting these starts into proper scores next summer.
Luis Reece went early, but after Ben's dismissal, Wayne Madsen and Alex Hughes took us past the hundred before play ended prematurely.
I can't say much more than that really.
Hopefully there will be more tomorrow.
I don't have a problem with playing cricket in September, in fact if the weather is good we could play into October, certainly 20/20 stuff. The main problem though is that this has been an extremely wet summer since June and everywhere is thoroughly water-logged.
ReplyDeleteWhat prompted this comment though was at least some cricket was possible unlike at Chesterfield. So whatever Gloucestershire have done, is a lot better than what we hadn't, or couldn't do, at Chesterfield.
On a purely cricketing note, it appears a good start by Derbyshire. let's hope they can build on that today.
Interesting the uncontested toss rule, we opt for toss so obviously wanted to bat first, Gloucester win the toss and allow us to do exactly what we wanted, so much for making the opposition do what they least want to do! I guess it may be the wicket used for the one day international so bowling in the fourth innings gives us our best chance. Think of score of 250 could be useful, weather permitting.
