Mendis to the fore again

Another sparkling performance today from Jeevan Mendis today, for his Tamil Union side against the Nondescripts in Sri Lanka.

At stumps on day two, Mendis is unbeaten on 123, with 11 fours and 3 sixes, this after taking two wickets in the opposition's first innings. He has so far faced 217 balls.

A very good player, is Mr Mendis.

Quite possibly an inspired signing...

    1. Whats not to like in a bloke who can win a game with bat and ball?

  2. 151 not out in the end. And 3 wickets so far. Impressive.

  3. Also I definitely see him batting in the top 6. Possibly at 5/6. I think 7 or 8 would be far too low. It's a fair point about him getting used to conditions but he seems a true all rounder.

  4. Mendis could be an inspired signing but I would caution against getting too carried away with performances in what will be totally different conditions than he will encounter over here and what standard is domestic cricket in Sri Lanka?

Neil broom came with a big wrap and I lost count of the number of video clips the club posted on Twitter of him carting New Zealand bowlers to all parts! Just saying we need to treat these stats with caution and personally I don't see him batting in the top six, not in championship cricket...

  5. Of course Jasper. Conditions will be very different but I would be surprised if he batted lower than 6.
A man with a proven track record of scoring tons (elsewhere) doesnt want to be batting too low and run out of partners.
There will be times his free style of batting will be his downfall, but he could also push on against hopefully tired bowlers.
And he offers with the ball and is a brilliant fielder. I know how you felt about Broom in that respect...
