Seconds storm to win in T20

Food for thought for Mickey Arthur today in the first match in the Second XI T20 at Sheffield

The home side won the toss and elected to bowl, probably regretting it 20 overs later, as Derbyshire amassed 236-7 in their 20 overs.

Harry Came was star man, making a brilliant 114 from 56 deliveries, with 14 fours and 3 sixes. He was well supported by Luis Reece (40) Yusuf Bin Naeem (31) and Joe Hawkins (21*).

Yorkshire never got close in reply, although Harry Duke, back from his loan spell at Middlesex, made 76.

He was dismissed by Rory Haydon, who took 3-36 and no one conceded more than 37 in a disciplined bowling display. Yorkshire finished on 182-5 as Derbyshire ran out winners by 54 runs.

  1. A great outing from our 2nd XI today after a disappointing day at headingley. I was at both games and enjoyed today more as it showcased our own players performing well.
Harry came, Bin Naeem and Reece were great with the bat. Came drawing the headlines with a sublime knock but it was also good to see Joe Hawkins doing well at the end of the innings playing a Whiteley-esk innings.

Haydon and Stewart were fabulous with the ball to secure the win and if a few catches weren’t put down it could have been a much heavier win for our 2nds

  2. Thanks for keeping us informed.

I would be surprised if changes are made to the T20 batting lineup at this stage, although the order could be tweaked a little bit.

Should Haydon be given a chance? Maybe, as a way needs to be found to gain more control of the bowling.

It’s a difficult call to make, as the team has performed reasonably well, but the T20 format is high-intensity and demands total concentration and discipline.

  3. I can't help thinking that all 4 of those players mentioned in the report should be playing for the first team in the blast.
I suspect that there's an idea that Came doesn't score quickly enough.
    Clearly this is not right.
Reece would always be the first person I picked in any form of cricket.
I really liked what I saw of Hawkins and I would give him a chance in the blast.
Mr Arthur: we do have alternatives.
