Kent 352 and 335 (Benjamin 123, Evison 88, Haydon 5-81)
Derbyshire 304 and 19-1
Derbyshire need 365 to win
Derbyshire did well this morning and made early inroads, but a partnership between Joey Evison and Chris Benjamin added 184 runs and took them from 122-6 to 306 and calm waters.
Both of them batted very well, but nothing much happened with the ball in that period. Although Derbyshire bowled fairly well, the highlight was a second, five-wicket haul for Rory Haydon, giving him match figures of 10-163. He did very well, while once again Ben Aitchison beat the bat frequently without taking the edge.
Kent set Derbyshire 384 to win and neither Harry Came nor Caleb Jewell looked comfortable in the closing session, with Dudgeon and Milne producing excellent spells.
It was no real surprise when Jewell was out in the final over and Derbyshire will face a real fight to salvage even a draw from this game.
Their hope is in surviving the first spells with the new-ish ball, because it seemed today to become much easier as the ball became older, as one might expect.
Historically, chances of a win would appear as likely as yours truly being on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing...
Having watched the first 35 mins and it’s 41-5 , I’d say your dancing shoes can go on Vinted !!!
ReplyDeleteIt’s looking like Derbyshire made a mistake in putting Kent in to bat.
ReplyDeleteEmbarrassing. I reckon we are on course for the worst season in recent history.

Another defeat beckons imo. The worst team in the league according to the table seems to have comprehensively outplayed us. Rory Haydon comes out of the game with a lot of credit. Can't be said of many others. Caleb Jewell looks a shadow of himself at the moment and we're it not for his reputation would be due a rest. The batters are not performing well enough so far. Changes required for the next one surely

As I write this we are 41-5. Having supported Derbyshire since 1960 I have witnessed some fairly dire displays but never anything so spineless as this. We might as well go into our next match versus Northants with the entire 2nd XI. Could they do any worse than this? We are embarrassingly bad at present and questions need to be added as to how we got into this state and why we are lumbered with MA until 2028.

After being an executive member last season and witnessing the horrendous T20 campaign along with some terrible performances in the other forms.
ReplyDeleteWe decided not to renew. Thank heavens! What a truly awful set of players and coaches. Sorry but they appear to sadly lack pride which was also evident last season.
As a type, we are 67 fo 6 on the final day. Another limp, insipid performance.
ReplyDeleteHe’s had enough chances now, Mr Arthur. He has consistently failed to put us first with all his other roles. How can he expect commitment and a ‘die for the cause’ attitude from the players when he doesn’t show that himself?
It is high time for him to go.

Do the honourable thing and walk away please MA, something is obviously wrong within this team and it makes me wonder if our head of cricket is the problem. Since he's come back we've folded like a pack of cards these last two matches, whereas the first two we were at least competitive. An absolutely woeful effort as I post down at Kent but I'm sure MA will find a positive from somewhere
