These deals will allow both young men to work hard at their games and show if they have what it takes for a career in first-class cricket
Both will have the opportunity to work with the squad over the winter and hopefully, in due course, score runs and take wickets regularly in the second team.
That would force them into first team contention and I think we would all be pleased with that!
Good luck to both of them.
Yes but I see no mention from the club that Alex Thompson has been released and has already the left the club!

That's my understanding too, Martin and it has come from several sources. But the club choose when to release information and for whatever reason have chosen not to do so yet.
DeletePositive news. As Hawkins is in & around national teams for his age group I would have given him 2 years, possibly 3. If he has a decent season next year he may get interest from richer counties.
ReplyDeleteMarkB
I doubt it, Mark. His best chance for the next few years is at a smaller club. He would only be a bit part at a bigger county. Look at Rocky Flintoff at Lancashire..relatively few teenagers make first teams at this level and the example of Harry Moore should serve to encourage him.
DeleteGood news that these 2 stay with us for 2026. Hope they both get a proper go at first xi cricket as well as the 50 over stuff in 2026. I think Bin Naeem's career has not progressed in 2025 due to lack of first team cricket, Hawkins certainly has but he too has only had very limited opportunities. Obviously they won't play all the time but need a few more games.
ReplyDeleteGood news for Hawkins and Bin Naeem. Now all we need is Matty Stewart, Joe Hall and an overseas fast bowler and then I’d say we’ve recruited well.
ReplyDeleteThey won't sign the first two, John. They have another year in the pathway before they need to make a decision. So if that is going to happen, it will be around this time next year. The difficulty for Hall, excellent player that he is, remains our having two good wickets keeper bats on the staff already. Unless one opted to leave next year, I don't see us taking a third keeper onto the staff.
