The worst thing about today's announcement of the signing of Ravi Rampaul is that it has happened while I am at work...
Be assured that I will comment later, as soon as I am able.
From my perspective, and I think most of you out there, this is a signing that does exactly what they should do..it improves considerably on what we already have and brings a man of considerable experience into our club.
More from me later.
Well chuffed I didn’t realise he was available. I figure Azzarullah but this guy has lots of experience and it’s a well done from me.
ReplyDeleteInteresting signing, proven quality and will hopefully give the Caribbean Premier League a wide berth having signed for three years, he certainly adds depth and experience to the seam bowling unit, I assume that the county asked about having Conor McKerr for 2018 and were knocked back (?), Rampaul contributes in both red and white ball formats, Will Davis, Tom Taylor and Ben Cotton should watch and learn
ReplyDeleteDecent signing. At 32, I don't see him playing in every game, but it does allow us to rest Viljoen when required. Don't see us having any further interest in Podmore now.
ReplyDeleteDavis and Taylor can now be played 'selectively', and will now have two international quality bowlers to learn from.
With him not being classed as an oversea's player, it leaves us a bit of freedom to get the right person in. Hopefully, a good quality top four bat.
Agreed. Perfect signing who will contribute both on and off the pitch.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Perfect signing both on and off the pitch.
ReplyDeleteHi David. From the interviews online from Barrett and Godleman it seemed we were after a domestic seamer and an overseas seaming all rounder (seamer who bats aka Holder idea that Peakfan had). If we get a batsmen great but it seems bext priority will be such a signing
ReplyDeleteGood bowler but could well become more injury prone as he gets older due to carrying a fair amount of 'spare timber' around with him! Phil.
ReplyDeleteWhy do we even bother with an academy?
ReplyDeleteI think you know that John. And that the hope is that Viljoen and Rampaul can help Gleadall, Taylor et al be more prepared for top level than the current young group appear to be at times.
ReplyDeleteThere was a perfect opportunity for the bowlers on the staff to make a starting 11 place their own this season, no one really stood up, Taylor showed promise but apart from that others didn't shine, not even in the 2nds, we had to bring in Mckerr and Podmore to cover..... a bowling attack in the CC of HV, Davis, Rampaul, backed up with Dino, Thakor (?) and Taylor looks a lot stronger and I for one am happy, however I would have preferred a 2 year deal , I would have liked to have known if we were in for Hutton who has joined Northants
