Poll

Thanks for your votes in the most recent poll. It suggested quite clearly that over half of you would be happy with however many foreign-raised players in the side as long as England win matches.

I'm loathe to suggest a quota system, something similar to South Africa had for a number of years, but I'm not so sure it says much for young players reared in this country if they are overlooked for someone brought up overseas.

At the end of the day, it comes down to ability, a thing that all sides should be selected on. If a young player decides to come to England and make his life there, it is perhaps churlish to say that's fine, but you'll never make the national side. At the same time I think we make sure that the player concerned is committed AND good enough. What we don't want is someone selected just so another country cannot pick them.

I also think that the decision might be affected by the player concerned. Would you be happy if Dan Redfern was kept out of the England reckoning for a foreign reared player? Maybe you would, as he would continue to be available to Derbyshire...

Anyway, thanks for your votes - the poll will return in a couple of weeks.
