Seconds in control at Repton

The county second eleven had an excellent day against Northamptonshire at Repton

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, Vasconcelos quickly into his stride and severe on any aberration in line or length from Stewart and Rogers.

He reached fifty at a run a ball but was dismissed soon afterwards by Jake Green, who went on to the splendid figures of 5-50. Stewart and skipper Yusuf bin Naeem pitched in with a couple of wickets each, with the other going to Rogers as Northamptonshire subsided from 112-2 to 191 all out.

When Derbyshire replied, Wagstaff didn't last long but trialist Finn Gordon, previously playing with Worcestershire and Hampshire this season, went on to a fine 34 before being dismissed by Weatherall.

Harry Conway was leading the visiting attack, which also featured Richard Keogh, but Derbyshire reached the close at 103-2, 88 runs behind. Naeem was unbeaten on 23, while at the other end Feroze Khushi, previously on the Essex staff and more recently playing for SACA, was unbeaten on 28, which included some pleasant strokes.

  1. Interesting that we're taking a look at Khushi, he didn't cement a place at Essex but has numerous notable scores at first class level across all formats.

Good to see Green and Stewart bowling well, as usual.

    1. Yes, both Khushi and Khunti have been playing with SACA. I am sure Essex Fan can give us chapter and verse on Khushi but he looked a talent at times. Maybe there is still time for him to come through...much to like about both players - as there is Green and Stewart!

    2. A good player who had good potential and showed it at times in div1 opening. Bat gate ended him and was not helped by an 'alleged' attitude problem, and general carelessness (which may explain bat gate), and perhaps why he's not been picked up by anyone else still.

Many were sad to see him go as a finished, at that point nick browne, was the only other option as that season they refused to move Paul Walter up to partner Elgar for some reason despite Walter having done it well enough a couple of season before for a few games, so we had to suffer browne ( a loyal servant but definitely not a div 1 player at that stage if ever) for the rest of the season. But some familiar with club and 2nd xi cricket pointed to non cricket issues and dressing room harmony.

If he sorts that out he is a first class level player

  2. I'm not sure we need any more batters. We already have too many on the staff as we have some who can't get a game under MA. Unless, of course, there are some goings in the next few months.
Stewart continues to impress and must be deserving of a first team contract.

  3. Sad that Khushi and Khunti only batted together for a minute. The confusion quotient could have been considerable. Dave.

    1. Should they ever bat together in the first class game, some poor commentator is almost certainly going to slip into Del Boy-style and call one of them 'Khushti'...

    2. Could be worse. Dave.
