Worcestershire v Derbyshire RLODC

Derbyshire 312-9 (Reece 136, Masood 63, Dal 46)

Worcestershire 265 (Libby 126, Conners 3-37)

Derbyshire won by 47 runs

I have to confess to seeing very little of Derbyshire's game at Worcester today, as I was busy doing stuff for my parents.

But I was very pleased with the result and the return to form of Luis Reece. 

Reece has had a poor season by his own high standards, but these runs were scored against a good attack. Hopefully it does his confidence the world of good and from the sound of it this was an innings to savour. 

Good support from Masood and Dal too, while Sam Conners (henceforth known as, England Lions Sam Conners) appears to have blitzed their top order. 

So what were your thoughts on the game?

We appear to still have a chance to progress, but likely need to win our remaining games, against Kent on Wednesday, Northamptonshire and Yorkshire.

Can we do it?

Hopefully the answer to that is one familiar to Bob the Builder fans...

    Noticed Mark Watt had another good day with Scotland. A nice little Michelle. Is it time that England had a look? Or is there something I don't know about qualification. He's clearly a cut above most and playing at a higher standard than the majority of other 50 overs players are currently due the the tournament that forgot cricket fans.

      Thanks Rich. Mark could play for England but suspect he won't, at least not now. But he is a very skilled bowler. My guess is a similar role with us next year and then, with Thomson and McKiernan out of contract, a decision to be made.

      Maybe by then an overseas spinner might be our greater need?

    This was Reece's game. He started shakily, but became more fluent as his innings went on. Once he'd passed a hundred, he accelerated, smashing the ball all over the place. He also picked up two wickets and took a catch that ended Worcestershire's reply.

    As usual, Masood made batting look effortless and Dal provided valuable support and he scored runs quickly. Once Connors had picked up three early wickets, we were on course to victory.

    It was good to see Archie Harrison making his debut and Nick Potts hitting a six with the last ball of the innings and picking up two wickets.
