More fall out

Interesting, but not surprising to see Jamie Dalrymple resign from Glamorgan today as the fun and games there continues. Their long-serving player and administrator, former broadcaster Peter Walker, has also resigned and fans of the county must dread each new day at present.

I’ve had a few e mails suggesting our bringing in Dalrymple as our skipper, but I’m not sure we have the resources. A batsman who averages mid-thirties and can bowl handy off-spin should have no problems in getting a club though. I could see him ending up at Surrey or Middlesex (his original county) but have a feeling that Gloucestershire may see him as a man to shore up their side, many of who have departed this winter.

The Scottish budget was announced yesterday but there’s no news on Derbyshire’s. I still think that we’ll see an overseas player and not too much else this winter, unless Chris Grant is going to have a direct input to the club in terms of cash, or we can get Take That to do a festive gig at the County Ground...

  1. Dalrymple and Cosgrove would be great straight replacements for Rogers and Peterson. We should sign them tomorrow. We need a spinner who can bat and Dalrymple, who is English, would fit the bill and save us on the 'Kolpak' payments we had with Peterson. Cosgrove can play well in all forms of cricket and Rogers could not. Get em' signed John! And if Chris Grant has got ten million like they say he has then maybee he might lend us a bit!

  2. 10 million.
Thats nothing compared with what don amott is worth. the thing is their alot of millionaires around that dont have much cash available, it all in assets so it can be misleading this millionaire tag. the problem with derbyshire you could pump 1 million plus into the club but their will still be 1 man and his dog wanting to watch them play.

  5. It appears that Derbyshire are chasing Cosgrove who has stated that he hopes to have his future sorted within a couple of weeks.

  8. End of this month for the fixtures apparently. Be very surprised if we don't go back to Leek after last year!

  9. Any news on how many days we have got at Chesterfield? I see the groundsman at Chesterfield has won an ECB National Award for the pitch there. I hope they don't reward that by taking matches of him for next year!
