Done and dusted - Derbyshire v Surrey day 4

A nice and steady five wicket win before lunch for Derbyshire today, ultimately by five wickets with two sessions to play.

They lost three wickets in doing so, but apart from Chris Schofield getting a little turn from a dry track there were few alarms along the way. Steve Stubbings marathon knock ensured they got near the finishing line and then another composed knock from Greg Smith took them across it after a flurry of boundaries. The latter would be my choice of man of the match, in the face of a lot of opposition. You really can't argue with 94 not out and 27 not out, together with 3-18 and 1-35.

It was a fine effort and after two games the table makes nice reading - Derbyshire top!

There's a long way to go and a lot of cricket to play, but hey, we're top and in the words of the late, great James Brown...

I feel good.

  1. I managed to make days 1 & 3 of this game, and have to say "well done". A professional performance, victory well-deserved over a Surrey side that were a right noisy lot, and for quite a bit of what I observed bad-tempered, with one or two players with somewhat of an attitude problem. If some of their seam attack had concentrated more on the "you miss I hit" phylosophy, instead of trying most of the time on intimidatory bowling they might have been able to get a little closer to an improving Derbyshire side.

Anyway, enough of Surrey, I liked what I saw of Garry Park, a good player, will be a great asset.

Graham Wagg, inspirational as usual, Greg Smith - this could be his season, player of the match no doubt, and yet again Mr. Derbyshire, that man Stubbo rose to the occasion with his second innings knock, right chuffed for him!
