Daniel Bell-Drummond leads the side, with Zak Crawley also available for this match.
Jaydn Denly returns to the squad after good form for the Second XI, whilst fellow young homegrown Kent talent Ben Dawkins, Ekansh Singh & Jas Singh are also selected.
Ben Compton suffered from a compound dislocation of his finger in the field last time out away at Worcestershire, and has undergone surgery. Grant Stewart & Matt Quinn remain out due to injuries sustained in training, as is former Derbyshire player Mikey Cohen
Their squad:
Bell-Drummond, Benjamin, Crawley, Dawkins, Denly, Dudgeon, Evison, Milnes, Muyeye, Northeast, Parkinson, Singh, Singh
There is a bit of rain around, but both sides will be desperate for a win here and I expect a positive result.
At this stage, I couldn't honestly say which way it will go, but I hope that Derbyshire can rise from recent travails and kick start their season.
What do you think?
Poor season start for both our openers so Wagstaff should have played after scoring back-to-back centuries. Zak Crawley also under pressure after a poor start so he'll probably score a double century!
ReplyDeleteThe fact Mitch can't even make the squad is ridiculous. There's no point in playing second team games if you don't get rewarded for doing well in them
ReplyDeleteI'm really starting to get annoyed with the HC
If Luis Reece can't bowl i think Donald should play. I don't think they will play 2 front line spinners so I think Morley's place in the squad should have gone to Wagstaff. He should open in place of Harry Came and he could have bowled some legspin as a bit of variation. Might not work, but there's no harm in trying as we aren't getting promoted anyway

This will be game four. So, if we are going to be in the fight for promotion, you would expect that we will put in a top class performance with both bat and ball. But, being Derbyshire...
ReplyDeleteAlso disappointed for Mitch, thought he'd make the squad. No "like for like" sub if a seamer falls... and Ben's workload has been high. Just sayin'!
ReplyDeleteDerbyshire becoming like England - once you’re in the team you stay in ! Came , Jewell and Guest lucky. Wagstaff and Basra unlucky.

Feel for Wagstaff and Basra. Won't get a look in and when they do it will be the odd game when there is nobody else available and they'll be asked to take on unfamiliar roles before being dropped again.
ReplyDeleteI trust that the "fringe" players - Wagstaff, Basra etc - are being managed properly and that they are clearly told what they need to do and what their perspectives of first team action are. I really can’t understand why Wagstaff isn’t in the squad for Kent: he is in form and offers variety to the bowling. He deserves a chance - if not now when?
ReplyDeleteWe really have to win this one so allez Derbyshire.

It’s unbelievable Wagstaff isn’t in the team let alone the squad. The 2nd team doesn’t play that much red ball cricket anymore. So the few games they do play it would seem a batsman would need a run of double centuries and a bowler will need about 10 5 wicket hauls in a row to be considered.Arthur seems to pencil a 11 in at the start of the season and they all stay in the team barring injuries for the entire summer. I will keep a eye on Derbyshires scores for the rest of the season and of course your excellent blog but think I will stop watching until the great M. A has left the club
