Second XI update

Ross Whiteley took 4-16 as Derbyshire bowled out Durham for 300 at Repton today.

Haydon Mustard (son of Phil, should have been called Dijon, really) made his second score of 99 for the visitors, before being caught at slip by Harry Came.  Manraj Johal, formerly on the Warwickshire staff, took two wickets, as did Pat Brown.

Three of Ross' wickets were caught in the deep, but four are in the scorebook, so no complaints there.

Derbyshire had reached 13-0 at the close, with Came and Wagstaff at the crease.

  1. Cheers for the update Steve.

Other than Wagstaff any young academy players in the side?

    1. Primarily staff and academy with only Johal and former England under 19 keeper Jack Carney, who held a very good catch.

  2. Will Whiteley come in to "steady the ship" against Northants? He's also an excellent pair of hands in the field. Kris

    1. Possibly, perhaps a straight swap for Dal? Or in place of Lamb? Runs here would make a strong case for his inclusion, as it would for Wagstaff..

  3. Cheers for the link Steve.

Also saw George Hargrave hit 129 off 44 balls for Shropshire against the Welsh minor county side. 13 6s!

He's a player I'd not mind us looking at. Staffordshire lad.

    1. He trialled for us back in 2022 and has done so for Northants last season and this. He seems a talent and someone will surely pick him up and give him the opportunity he deserves. If he wants to, of course - he's an intelligent lad and can likely do well merely playing social cricket!

  4. If Whiteley gets runs tomorrow, it would be hard not to pick him. I think there is a case for him to play instead of Chappell too, with Reece bowling more overs. I don't see Whiteley bowling much in 4 day. Kris

    1. I don't either, Kris, but he would be an option. There are decisions to be made and places to be fought for!

  5. I was there for most of the day. Some good performances:
Jack Carney looks a really good keeper, his second catch was a cracker.
Harry Moore was the star of the show. In his 5 overs he had their top 3 in all sorts of trouble, very impressive. He's only a young lad but there's a lot to like.
Alex Thomson bowled a controlled spell with little help from the wicket.
I thought Ross left it a bit late to bring him myself on and didn't look particularly threatening but got his rewards in the end.
Need to see how we bat on what looks like a decent batting track.
    Enjoyable day in the sunshine!
