No one else scored big, but hopefully they will feel ready for the season opener at Lord's today with two centuries from top six players, they won't complain too much.
Elsewhere Suranga Lakmal arrived in Derby, so has chance to meet and train with the players over the next two days
I reckon I could name ten of the side now, so will go with:
Godleman
Masood
Guest
Madsen
Du Plooy
Reece
Dal
Thomson
Conners
Lakmal

Ben Aitchison would have likely had that final place, but his injury gives opportunity to either Nick Potts, George Scrimshaw or Mikey Cohen.
No doubt something for Mickey Arthur to mull over in the coming days!
With BA and GS injured then I think young Potts has done enough to earn that last spot in your XI ahead of Cohen and that team ought to be capable of giving Middlesex a game. Let's hope so!
ReplyDeleteYeah, you could make a case for either. Cohen gives you pace and a different angle, but also means we play 4 non English qualified players and so get no PRFP money from the opening game. We need to average 7. 5 per game, but it is early and that can be made up over the season.
ReplyDeletePotts bowled well at Oxford and is one of our own.. How nice to go in with two local lads in a 3 man seam attack!?
There is another option, for early season and you COULD go with Dal as 3rd seamer and play Alex Hughes. Maybe his medium pace might do Darren Stevens?
I do think that the least likely option, but before the first game injuries have already hit. We can't handle too many with the smallest squad in the country
Came for Du plooy for me. Apart from that, I agree with that eleven. Kris
ReplyDeleteYes the injuries are something we really don't need but no news at this stage as to how serious they are?
ReplyDeleteHughes is an option as you say especially early season but like you I see it as the least likely. I like the left arm option Cohen gives but Potts has outperformed him in these warm up games. Young local lad. Let's give him a go! I assume Conners will be available?
I think red ball cricket there questions over Du Plooy. He is such a talented player and match winners on his day. You can’t escape his average in red ball cricket last year 18. I think he deserves a starting position but the number 5 slot is certainly up for grabs if he doesn’t start season well.
ReplyDeleteYes. The good thing about Came's pre-season form is that it applies pressure. I hope Hughes and Wood do the same in due course.
DeleteMA is a winner and I suspect sentiment will play little part. Madsen, Du Plooy and Godleman all need far better summers than last year..
