Update

Reports online suggest that no decision will be made on the future of Mickey Arthur as Sri Lanka coach until after the end of their Test series against West Indies on December 3.

A faction of their powers that be seem to prefer a Sri Lankan coach, with Roshan Mahanama mentioned in despatches, a man somewhat bizarrely with no coaching experience.

Arthur will take the West Indies series but what then? That is another three weeks of waiting with, it appears, no guarantee that he would be available at the end of it.

Those of you attending the Member forum this week (Thursday) may want to ask these questions:

Can we afford to wait until the new year for a new HOC?

Have we put a deadline in place for an answer?

What about plan B? Specifically, if in the intervening period, plan B accepts another role?

What about outstanding contracts, like Anuj Dal?

Recruitment? Because we need players..

Looks like this one will run and run...

  1. It's just typical Derbyshire, an abysmally run club with poor communication to its supporters. At the rate that this is plodding along we'll get to next April with a new head coach who will probably have been in his role for a month, and a desperately thin and weak squad for him to work with. I'm not holding out of any hope of an announcement this side of Christmas, very poor Derbyshire

  2. The shambolic season rolls on into the Autumn is this a case of the board being desperate to sign a big name?

    1. I think it would be a coup, but not necessarily the right move for us.

I am happy to revisit this, but feel this has strong potential to go wrong.

And as someone said to me recently, in the time this has taken there was an opportunity to do a 'roots and branches' overhaul of our cricket.

      That hasn't happened.

  3. This whole sorry story is typical of the way our shambolic County is run. Will those who ask questions at the Members Forum get answers and not obsfuscation? I used to be a Member but living 47 miles away means making an effort to get to Derby and the way we played last season means it just isn't worth it.
