At the eleventh hour before the season proper commences for Derbyshire, Graeme Welch has brought in experienced Nottinghamshire seamer Luke Fletcher on loan for the first five games of the season.
With 213 first division wickets in 71 matches, the strapping pace man should help us to get off to a good start in the division, which, as we all know, is so important.
More from me later on this, but a pace attack of Fletcher, Carter and Palladino will be among the most dangerous in the division.
Very good work by Derbyshire - see you later with more on this.
Good signing I like Luke he always gives his all and is a character ready for a chat on the boundary. He is a Nottinghamshire lad and the Trent Bridge members love him but as one Notts wag put it "Castle Rock Brewery's sponsorship agreement with the club is keeping Luke in beer" is my only concern.
ReplyDeleteDidn't we have him on loan last season Peakfan?.
ReplyDeleteLuke had a loan spell with Surrey last season and played for them against us.
ReplyDeleteBeat me to the draw there Roy! He is a big built lad but he can put a ball down the other end at a decent speed and, like Rory Kleinveldt, is an old school type bowler with plenty of timber to support the stresses of bowling.
ReplyDeleteLike anything else, it is only an issue when he isn't doing well. Mark Cosgrove has scored thousands of runs, yet his weight is only an issue when he is out of form...
Yes Mark and Luke are very similar in attitude they are willing to engage with the spectaculars when fielding but turn into a different person when they get to the middle. When I read about Surrey's bowling problems I looked to see if Luke was linked to them but they appear to have the money to bring in bigger names.
