Madsen and Footitt sign for two years

Excellent start to the day for Derbyshire fans this morning with the news that Wayne Madsen and Mark Footitt have both signed new two-year contracts.

Put another way, we’ve secured the services one of the best batsmen to break onto the county scene in some time, together with perhaps the fastest bowler in the country for another two seasons.

What’s not to like? Big thumbs up from me!

  1. No work today, Peakfan?

I happen to have the day off (truly).

Yes, a good move on Morris's part. Madsen is my 2nd ranked batsman with the club (behind Hughes) and Footitt is potentially the most dangerous pace bowling asset we have at our disposal. All in all, the right move and a good move.

  2. Yes, great news to tie those two down to longer-term deals.

Slightly off topic but I wonder whether Lungley, possibly on a pay-as-you-play deal, could be a shrewd signing for Gloucs with their current lack of finance and fast bowlers?

  4. Yes, work MV but pasted this in quickly while various other software programmes were loading!
I actually think Madsen could be even better next season and Hughes might have a more difficult time, but we'll see.
Lungley? Yeah, he might do a job for someone, but there's the big 'if' of fitness.
Totally agreed though - great bit of work by JM

  5. You could well be right with the pair for next term, but I fancy Hughes to pip Madsen in the longer term (if we can keep him!).

  6. Yeah, at least we have them both until the end of 2012 now!
