They recovered from 62-4 to finish the day on 431-7
Oscar Edwards made most of the early runs, with 40, but his side was in trouble on his dismissal. Then George Blount of Denstone College anchored the rest of the day with a magnificent unbeaten 160 from 231 balls, including 25 fours.
He shared a stand of 141 in 25 overs with wicket keeper Harry Temperton (72), of Sedbergh School, before Umayr Hewitt (55) helped to add 122 for the seventh wicket.
On his dismissal Jake Green made a breezy, unbeaten 49 at a run a ball as Derbyshire ended the first day of the three-day match in a position of control.
It was a terrific effort from a team in which several players are playing considerably above their age.
Blount, who plays his cricket at Quarndon, still has another year of school next year and is another to keep an eye on.
Well done lads!
