He will join up with Mickey Arthur for the two-week tournament, which features eight teams.
I'm surprised that Nye didn't come into consideration for one or two other competitions, given his explosive batting. Of course it is hit and miss, given the way that he plays but when he comes off, as we saw several times in last summer's Blast, it is quite magnificent.
The tournament begins on November 18
I know they get paid well so you can’t necessarily blame the players but don’t you think it’s amazingly wrong that people can fly almost around the world to bowl 2 overs or bat for maybe 20 minutes in a handful of cricket games
ReplyDeleteI think it is crazy, Ian. When we read about climate concerns etc, people crossing the globe for a bit of a hit is nuts.
DeleteI wouldn't travel to the next village for ten overs. T20 isn't worth my travelling time, so anything less will never be.
But I suspect no one is going to pay you 10K a game (or whatever the going rate is) and the Pay TV channels probably are not queuing up either. Whilst people pay for Sky and TNT and the rest this is going to continue. Martin
DeleteIt's hard to believe he's not been selected in T10 cricket before. Perfectly suited, you would have thought. Good luck to him.
ReplyDeleteglobalised sport is unsustainable, Ian - and it's only a matter of time before it gets taken over by eSports anyway... Dave.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Dave. It is going to stop at some point, when the money runs out and the appeal dwindles...
DeleteHas T10 cricket been thought up for spectators with the attention span of your average five year old? Regarding A Donald I would compare him with someone like Steve Goldsmith it’s difficult to compare modern batsmen with those from a generation ago nowadays everything is in the batsman’s favour the pitches power plays etc, the most frustrating English batsmen I ever watched playing for Derbyshire was John Morris on his day his batting was beyond superlatives unfortunately there wasn’t enough of such days, an act of stupidity by himself while on the England tour of Australia in 1990 finished any chance he had of a Test career
DeleteHe could be frustrating, but more than 21,500 first class runs would suggest John Morris had a reasonable
Deleteamount of good days! Donald reminds me a little of Adrian Kuiper, just without the bowling ability.
How short can we go? T5?
ReplyDeleteMaybe T1.
When it gets to T0 perhaps sanity can return.
The way it is going, with big bats, short boundaries and batting 'roads' they may as well just have a bowling machine and winning is down to who hits the furthest. I like a game that is even between bat and ball. Too many games arent
Delete*F5 and O1
DeleteDonald is in my top 10 Derbyshire cricketers to watch. People may be surprised, as I've been going since around 1988, but you can't beat the adrenaline rush of Donald in full flow. Hopefully he stays beyond next season....Kris
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Kris and I’ve been going since 1970. The guy is such a clean hitter and it frustrates me immensely when we people say he is hit or miss! Was it 6 half centuries in the t20? That’s some success rate. If only we had another 2 or 3 like him!

Wales should play Scotland at cricket.
ReplyDeleteI think Wales and Scotland should have international teams at cricket but that also Scotland should also have a team in the County Championship. And Wales should have an international side and keep Glamorgan in the County Championship. .
