It is not a surprise and in my opinion it is the correct decision.
He has shown glimpses of the outstanding player that he has been in his time at Derbyshire, but it has not been sustained and I never felt there was any possibility of him being retained at the end of the season.
There will be more on this in the days ahead, as I write a concluding piece on the Vitality Blast.
But for Derbyshire, it allows them to refocus and also to use his salary in other ways, to improve the squad.
Like all of you, I would like to thank him for his efforts in Derbyshire colours.
Well said Steve. I agree it's best all round that we go our separate ways, but you are right to wish him well
ReplyDeleteJohn Flint.
Totally the correct decision and Ross, David L and Pat B should follow as well. The contribution from all three has been way below of what was expected
ReplyDeleteOnly Ross of those 3 is out of contract, CB. And I don't think he has done badly in this compy. They may choose to release him, but he hasn't been a failure by any means
DeleteMickey’s winners have definitely not been winners. RW no longer bowls and bats so low in the order a complete waste of time around
DeleteLooks like we might have to be ruthless Steve if we can afford to be. Tonight just sums us up in a nutshell, seriously lacking in quality all over the pitch
DeleteRoss is still an asset that any county will wish to have in terms of explosive hitting and legendary fielding. As Steve says, he’s done well this season batting at 6 or 7 mostly, but he should be at 5 next season please.

Release the building blocks of our push for T20 glory, how very dare you?
ReplyDeleteOn a more serious note, it is a pity that it isn’t so easy to do just that.
Pat brown bowling just one over and Harry Came batting at 3? What's that all about?
ReplyDeleteNot playing Wagstaff or any other young lads.
We're not improving in the this format. We're going backwards. Something is not right
Rob by the way
ReplyDeleteAs a kid I grew up with Bolus as our captain and a grim, grim time it was. Samit’s T20 reign ain’t been much better, taken as a whole. Can we please put it into the club rules that we should never, ever, sign an ex-Notts player to captain us in any competition?

I thought Wagstaff showed potential as a leggie in T20 and has a record of going at 8 and over. At some point we need to lower the average age of the squad, which seems pretty high. Kris
ReplyDeleteIt never crossed my mind that we would see him play for us again anyway. Whatever he and Arthur might say, it was a failed experiment.
