They come up against a Yorkshire side that has been starting to find a little form and will need to be at their best to get anything from the game. The thinking money is that this may not get to a fourth day, but we will see how things go.
Chesterfield pitches are normally sporting, with good carry and bounce, as well as offering spin as the game goes on. That being the case, I would not be surprised to see Mitch Wagstaff given a game alongside Alex Thomson in this one. A 14-man squad has been announced and my best guess of the team is in the first eleven players below, with the others in the squad:
Lloyd, Reece, Guest, Madsen, Lamb, Donald, Wagstaff, Thomson, Chappell, Conners, Dupavillon
Came, Whiteley, Brown are also in the squad. There is no Anuj Dal, who misses out for personal reasons.
The Yorkshire squad for the game has yet to be announced and I understand they remain hopeful that Ben Coad may be fit to play. Their side should not be too different to the one that be Gloucestershire by an innings at Scarborough last week, a side that featured Conor McKerr, on loan from Surrey and Sri Lankan left-arm seamer Vishwa Fernando. Shan Masood missed that game with concussion, but is expected to be fit for this one.

I am expecting a positive result, with Yorkshire probably the favourites. If Derbyshire produce their best form, they have the ability to win it and it may well be that the toss plays a considerable role in the eventual outcome.
There is some rain forecast for Monday, but the usual Chesterfield pitch will probably not require a full four days.

I hope you enjoy your day at Chesterfield, Steve. As to which Derbyshire team will turn up is anyone's guess. I hope Wagstaff plays, and that we see what he can do with the bat, not just the ball.
ReplyDeleteI shall be there, at least until tea anyway, to give my membership only its second outing of the season. The surroundings will at least make the day tolerable whatever the quality of the cricket itself.
ReplyDeleteThinking about the possible team today. I think I would try Brooke Guest as opener allowing David Lloyd to drop to 3.
ReplyDeleteWith Aneurin Donald in the side he can take over the gloves if Guest needs a rest at some point (maybe towards the end of an innings to allow him to mentally prepare to open).
Opening the batting and keeping is a tough gig .. probably a reflection on how we are playing currently , for it to be an option

DeleteI see that Leicestershire have replaced one good quality overseas in Mulder with 2 more for the rest of the season, Neesham for the Blast and Rahane for the other comps.

ReplyDeleteLooking at the Derbyshire player's body language you would think tomorrow was the 1st of September and they are all thinking they can't wait for the season to be over and not July the 1st and still the best part of half of the season still to be played
