Second team win thriller!

What a fabulous game of cricket at Repton over the past three days, which ended with Derbyshire completing an excellent chase in pursuit of a target of 293 and winning the game by two wickets.

Seventeen year old Harry Moore showed he is more than just a very talented opening bowler by making an impressive 64* from 68 balls, with nine fours and two sixes.

Earlier Mitch Wagstaff made 63 and Alex Thomson 44, while there were thirties for Ross Whiteley and wicket-keeper Jack Carney.

At 230-7 the game seemed to be slipping away from Derbyshire but Sam Conners (18) helped Moore add 58 for the eighth wicket, before being dismissed just before the target was reached.

Earlier Sam Conners took 3-18 and Alex Thomson 3-50.

It was a terrific effort by a young team and welcome good news.

  1. Good news, after all that's gone before so far this season. I am convinced that the Pathway is the way forward long term for the club. It will take time, but have we unearthed a gem in Harry Moore? Early days, of course, and careful management needed - already he has had back issues it seems. But good luck to the lad. And well batted today.

  2. Terrific win and a great game of cricket. Kudos to Ross for a great declaration which enabled the win.
I posted on Monday how impressed I was with Harry Moore's bowling and now it appears he can handle the willow as well.
    Well played young man!

  3. A fantastic performance. Harry Moore does indeed look a prospect. I was puzzled by the absence of Nick Potts in the starting XI. It seems he was twelfth man. I would have thought he would have started, unless there’s an injury issue. Also, Aitchison didn’t feature, although he’s come on as a sub fielder for the firsts.

    1. Name please, anon! Yes, fit enough to Field or carry drinks and stay involved, but not currently to bowl. Moore looks terrific but he has a long way to go - he is still at school!

    2. On Monday Nick Potts went through some bowling drills with the coaches at lunch.
Started very gingerly but gradually upped the intensity though not bowling anywhere near 100%.
As you say PF coming back from injury.

    1. Thanks Andy, yes the words flow more easily with a win. We must do it more often!

  5. What are your thoughts on 2nd xi cricket PH?

Debate on essex forum about scrapping it due to the cost, or at least making it regional to avoid the excess costs of travel and overnight stays which over the course of a season add up.

The standard is often poor as well.
