Glamorgan v Derbyshire day 3

I am running out of time tonight, so won't be able to comment in too great detail on the third day's play. Suffice to say that once again Anuj Dal batted quite beautifully and deserved a century, while Harry Came showed a different and impressive side to his game.

They batted very well until lunch, then sadly all the remaining wickets went before tea.

Second time around we batted better than in the first innings, but there is still an awful lot of work to be done to save this game.

If Madsen and du Plooy can get in tomorrow there is a chance, but escaping with a draw in this game would appear to be unlikely.

Full credit to Dal for another sparkling effort. He really has had a special season and would definitely be my player of the year, as well as my choice for captain in 2023. I would love to see him batting a place higher in the order, because too often this year he has been left with only the tail for support. But he has become a special cricketer and deserves everything that comes his way through his hard work.

We will see what tomorrow brings.

It is as they say the hop that kills.

I know that all logic dictates that Glamorgan will deservedly win the game by an innings and something, either late this morning or in the early afternoon.

But - could we escape with a draw? To do that in all probability 3 out of the 4 of Madsen, Du Plooy, Came and Dal with have to score 70+ runs today. But that's not impossible? Is it?

It would certainly make a change to steal a draw from a game we should have lost rather than drawing games we should/could have won.

The absolute cherry on the cake would be if the last shot of the match is an Anuj Dal cover drive which simultaneously seals the draw, brings up his century and also his 1000 for the season!

  2. Yes, Anuj Dal has had an incredible season. And to think he was once seen as a "bits and pieces" player. I can't decide between him and Brooke Guest for player of the season. Guest has also been outstanding. Maybe Dal for player of the year and Guest for young player of the year.

  3. I agree with you Steve about Anuj. Not so long ago certain people were questioning what did he do for the team, now it's a case of what doesn't he do. An impressive communicator, highly thought of in the PCA and never less than inspirational in the field. To my untrained eye, an obvious choice for our next captain

  4. Dal is my player of the year. always feel a sense of relief when he is batting as I know he won't give his wicket away easily. definitley shpuld be high up however i'd be reluctant to make him captain because he already does so much. We have been very reliant upon him with bat and ball (as well as being a good fielder), I would hate to see his batting and bowling suffer with all the extra responsibility of being captain. Personally, I think he should remain free to do what he does best. Guest has exceeded all my expectations, particulary in the shorter form of the game. A close 2nd. Facet.
